-Chen Yong, vice president of Dalian Ocean University, and his ocean ranch.
At the bottom of vast expanse, kelp, Undaria pinnatifida, kelp and other algae form a green forest. This green forest is attached to rocks of different shapes, during which fish shuttle, sea cucumbers recline, sea urchins crawl, crabs come and go, and sea shrimps are alive and kicking ... This scene is not an illusory film and television picture, but a warm home-ocean ranch built by Professor Chen Yong, vice president of Dalian Ocean University.
Determined not to take the usual path
From 65438 to 0978, Chen Yong entered Dalian Fisheries University (Dalian Ocean University) to study marine fishing as one of the second batch of students who resumed the college entrance examination. After successfully completing his studies, he obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering and stayed on as a teacher. During his eight years as a teacher, Chen Yong carefully studied the development of marine fishery in China. It is found that the seawater pollution in China's offshore waters is becoming more and more serious, and the fishery environment is deteriorating. Coupled with overfishing, the number and species of offshore marine life are gradually decreasing, and marine fishery resources are seriously declining. Chen Yong is worried. At this rate, the offshore fishery in China will face great challenges.
Japan, separated only by a strip of water from China, faced similar problems at that time. To this end, the Japanese government has invested heavily in building artificial reefs, artificially increasing fishery resources, and releasing fish and shellfish fry to repair and improve the marine ecological environment. 1990 10, Chen Yong entered the biological environment research room of Tokyo Fisheries University (now Tokyo Ocean University) and began to study artificial reefs, algae reefs and marine pastures, pursuing a doctoral degree.
"Ten years grinding a sword" to serve the country.
While studying at Tokyo Ocean University, Chen Yong either went to the library to read books about artificial reefs, or went to the laboratory to do experiments, or discussed with teachers and classmates ways to further develop and improve artificial reefs.
In the library, Chen Yong carefully read the cases and studied the technical difficulties of various artificial reefs in Japan and other countries from the aspects of morphological structure, ecological function, production materials, production technology, site selection, release mode, post-management and so on. In the laboratory, Chen Yong carefully observed the living conditions of artificial reefs under different conditions and their impact on the ecological environment. After class, Chen Yong often went to the sea area with artificial reefs by the sea to inspect the function, effect and deficiency of artificial reefs on the spot, and then did experiments after coming back to further study the reasons.
In Japan, based on the in-depth study of artificial reefs, Chen Yong completed his doctoral thesis "Research on Artificial Reef Made of Silt Deposited on the Seabed". The invention patent "artificial algal reef" he applied for before is the first invention patent about artificial algal reef in the world. After completing the postdoctoral program, Chen Yong began to think about his future. At that time, he had three choices: to stay in Japan, to go to Australia and to return to China. "Go home." Chen Yong resolutely chose his motherland and his alma mater.
Build a house for marine life
In 2000, Chen Yong got the first project after returning to China-Dalian Returned Overseas Students Research Fund Project-"Dalian Coastal Participation in Diffusion Environment Optimization Technology Research". The difficulty of this project lies in the formulation of technical scheme. Because sea cucumber, abalone and sea urchin are all treasures, a little carelessness will bring great risks to farmers. At first, Chen Yong made an in-depth investigation on the environmental factors such as current, ocean current, temperature and geology in the target sea area. Shortage of funds, he borrowed a manpower boat without rent, took the equipment out to sea, measured the water quality, measured the sediment, dug the sediment, and tried the distance between the networks ... After a series of tedious and meticulous field work was completed, Chen Yong copied the seawater environment of the target sea area in the laboratory, put fish reefs and sea cucumbers in it, and observed the effect for several days. After the success of the experiment, Chen Yong put various artificial reefs into the target sea area and filmed the scene irregularly. The research in Chen Yong increased the biomass of sea cucumber, sea urchin, kelp and Undaria pinnatifida in artificial reefs by more than 30%. At the same time, the growth environment of sea treasures has been greatly improved, forming a virtuous circle and bringing good economic and ecological benefits to enterprises.
Chen Yong's broadsword was recognized by people in the industry in the first instance. Then, he led the research team to take over the key scientific and technological project of Liaoning Province "Research on Marine Ranch Technology", the Liaoning Provincial Fund "Research on Theory and Method of Optimizing Marine Ecological Environment by Using Artificial Reef" and the National Natural Science Foundation and the National 863 Plan Artificial Reef Research, and cooperated with Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group Co., Ltd. and other enterprises to carry out a series of research and demonstration on marine pasture technology in the northern Yellow Sea and other places. Through years of research and construction,
At present, Chen Yong is undertaking major national marine public welfare projects, major projects of the 948 Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, and special projects of the Ministry of Agriculture. Meanwhile, Chen Yong also presided over the establishment of the first marine pasture engineering technology center in China-Liaoning Marine Ranch Engineering Technology Research Center. He and his team's theory and technology in marine pasture construction have been well received by domestic experts and scholars, which has guided the development of marine pasture construction and research in China.
Ocean ranch will usher in a golden age.
Chen Yong said confidently: "The State Oceanic Administration advocates ecological and scientific use of the sea, and marine pasture is one of the manifestations of this way of using the sea. Marine pasture can extend the industrial chain of marine fishery. For example, opening up a service-oriented tertiary industry. Fish like to move around reefs with plants, which can be used for leisure fishing or diving sightseeing. The industries in Qingdao, Shanghai and Sanya have developed rapidly. "
During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the state will continue to increase investment in marine science and technology, and China will also usher in the golden period of marine pasture construction. Chen Yong believes that as long as the vast number of marine scientists and technicians can adhere to the Scientific Outlook on Development and build China's oceans with a scientific attitude and method, they will certainly realize the modernization of marine agriculture and make due contributions to China's food, ecology and national security.
