As the only Chinese business corporation in Hong Kong, its predecessor was Hong Kong Chinese Business Bureau, which was established in 1900. In order to safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese businessmen, participate in social welfare and strengthen the ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland, the bureau was recognized by the Hong Kong government from the date of negotiation. After the founding of the Republic of China, chambers of commerce have been established in all walks of life in Hong Kong. In view of the fact that all chambers of commerce have joined the bureau, the chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong proposed to change it into a general chamber of commerce, and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong was born. Soon, the membership grew to 1000, and became the general representative of major Chinese companies, line numbers and trade chambers in Hong Kong. By 1952, the General Chamber of Commerce implemented the director system and changed its name to "Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce", which has been in use ever since and has become the oldest and most influential representative office of Chinese businessmen in Hong Kong.
