At the same time, Li Guangqian also believes that the reason why he was able to get an education when he was young is also because of the donation of well-intentioned people, and his road to study is so hard that he can no longer wronged the next generation. Li Guangqian is determined to use the money earned to support education and start cultural undertakings.
Li Guangqian, who has a successful career, never forgets to repay Sang Zi and the local society, and holds the belief of taking it from society and applying it to society. On the one hand, he supported schools in Xiamen University and Jimei Xue Cun and Huaqiao University, and donated kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools (Nan 'an Guoguang Middle School), hospitals and libraries in his hometown. On the other hand, we donated money to Nanyang University (initiated by Ambassador Liu Chen), University of Malaya and Singapore-Malaysia National Library.
From 65438 to 0927, Li Guangqian started his own business and continued to support Xiamen University with independent assets. The history of the school records: "Since the 16th year of the Republic of China, Mr. Wang, Mr. Zeng, Mr. Ye Yudun, Mr. Wang, Mr. Huang, Mr. Yin and Singapore Qunjin Company have successively donated various funds, totaling 200,000 yuan." 1934, after the closure of Chen Jiageng's company, Xiamen University and Jimei University received strong support from Li Guangqian. In that year,,,, and Qunjin Company donated more than 654.38 million yuan to Xiamen University and Jimei School. 1936, Chen Jiageng raised funds 16000 yuan to buy a 400-mu rubber garden, which is planned to be used as Xiamen university fund, and Li Guangqian donated 50,000 yuan.
1934 took over as the chairman of Nanyang Middle School, responsible for the school's annual funds, construction costs, school building construction, and the library of Xinjian University. At the same time, he is also the director of nine middle schools and more than a dozen halls, including Nanyi School, Daonan School, Overseas Chinese Guidance School, Guanghua School and Overseas Chinese South School. He didn't do it for fame and fortune, but he was always diligent as long as he could help in education.
During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Li Guangqian founded "Ethnic Primary School" in Meishan, Nan 'an, his hometown. 1943, Guoguang Middle School was established. 1952, he donated millions of yuan to his hometown for the expansion of Meishan Xue Cun. In addition to restoring the elementary school he founded in 1939, he also expanded Guoguang Kindergarten, Guoguang Middle School, Guoguang Hospital and Guoguang Theater. Meishan Xue Cun has therefore become a well-known learning village at home and abroad, with kindergartens, primary schools and middle schools, with a construction area of more than 50,000 square meters and complete welfare facilities. What makes him feel gratified is that ethnic middle schools and ethnic primary schools have successively become key schools in Fujian Province, and ethnic hospitals have also become famous cancer hospitals in Jinjiang, Fujian.
From 65438 to 0950, after the founding of New China, Li Guangqian strongly supported Chen Jiageng's patriotic action to expand Xiamen University. 1950165438+15 October, Li Guangqian wrote to Chen Jiageng, expressing his willingness to continue funding Xiamen university to repair and expand its school buildings destroyed by the war. He raised more than 6 million yuan (HK$) and gave it to Chen Jiageng for unified planning and use. From 195 1 to 1955, 24 new school buildings and public facilities were built, with a construction area of about 60,000 square meters, equivalent to twice the total area of school buildings before the founding of New China. Among them, Jiannan Auditorium, Biology Hall (Cheng Yi Building), Mathematics and Science Hall (Nan 'an Building), Chemistry Hall (Nanguang Building), three staff dormitories "Guoguang Building", four boys' dormitories "Furong Building" and three girls' dormitories "Fengting Building" (now newly built in the original site) are built, and public facilities include a library (Chengzhi Building, now used by the College of Literature. It has also built a "winding" stadium with an area of nearly 20,000 square meters and a total stand length of nearly 1 10,000 meters, which can accommodate 20,000 spectators, and a series of seawater swimming pools with an area of 6,000 square meters near the seaside of Hulishan.
1952, Li Guangqian decided and implemented a certain proportion of corporate profits as special funds for public welfare undertakings, and established the "Lee Fund", which was kept by the Fund Committee, and all the proceeds were used for educational charity and public welfare undertakings. The fund has about 200 million yuan (Singapore dollars), accounting for more than half of its property. 1964, Li Guangqian donated all his shares in Nanyi (accounting for 48% of the total shares) to Lee's Fund, which became the largest shareholder of Nanyi Group, and all the dividends obtained each year were used for permanent charity.
From 65438 to 0952, Li Guangqian set up the "Lee Foundation" with most of his property, and actively contributed to cultural, educational and social welfare undertakings. Until the death of Li Guangqian in 1967, the foundation still supported various scientific, technological, cultural and educational activities with donations according to his last wish of "taking it from all society and using it for everything".
Whether in the Mainland or overseas, as long as it is related to Chinese and education, Li Guangqian will do its best and spare no expense. His great contribution to education, economic development and social progress has won unanimous praise at home and abroad. 1957, Sultan of Johor, Malaysia made him Datuk. The following year, the University of Malaysia awarded him an honorary doctorate in law. 1962 1, the Singapore government officially announced the appointment of Mr. Li Guangqian as the first president of the University of Singapore. This is the highest honor in his life. At the inauguration ceremony, he said: "Our contribution to the country is greater than educating young people ... It is also fun to be educated by talents in the world."
1983, a nephew from Li Guangqian proposed to establish Nanyang University, the first Chinese university in Southeast Asia, and Li Guangqian immediately responded positively and sponsored it. He has repeatedly stressed that the purpose of running Nanyang University is to inherit and develop Chinese excellent culture and provide more opportunities for Malaysian youth to enjoy higher education. In the process of running a school, there were many difficulties and rumors, but Li Guangqian ignored them and continued to give strong support.
1985101On October 22nd, Fujian Guild Hall erected a bronze statue of him in Li Guangqian Memorial Pavilion of Nanqiao Middle School to commemorate his great contribution. Similarly, today, when we walk into the famous "No.1 School in the Hometown of Overseas Chinese"-Guoguang Middle School in Nan 'an, Fujian, we will also see the bronze statue of Mr. Li Guangqian. Although he has passed away, his educational philosophy and entrepreneurial spirit are still being cultivated by him.
Mr. and Mrs. Li Guangqian have six children. Three sons, Li Chengyi, Li Chengzhi and Li Chengwei, have made great achievements in running enterprises after graduation. They inherited the fine traditions of their grandfather Chen Jiageng and father Li Guangqian, and spared no effort to donate money for education and continue to support Xiamen University. 1967 after Li Guangqian's death, the three brothers presided over the Lee Foundation in Singapore, still adhering to the purpose of "taking it from society and using it for society" and donating money to support various scientific, technological, cultural and educational activities, including supporting Xiamen University.
Anyone who has been to Xiamen University will always linger in front of Jiannan Building Complex, the landmark building complex of Xiamen University. This group of buildings also embodies the hard work of two generations of Li family. In the 1990s, colleagues of the Lee Foundation in Singapore learned that Jiannan Building Group was in disrepair for a long time, so 1994 began to donate more than RMB 60,000/kloc-0 to completely renovate the stone road in front of five buildings and buildings, which made Jiannan Building Group look brand-new. The Lee Foundation also donated 5.27 million yuan (RMB) to build a new outpatient building and a new teaching area square at the seaside, and also sponsored Xiamen University to hold an international academic conference.
