Established in 1996, the National Training Base of Geography in East China Normal University is one of the first five national training bases for geography talents in China. After the construction of the Ninth Five-Year Plan, the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, adhering to the combination of "inheritance and innovation", according to the law of talent training and the idea of sustainable development, with the goal of cultivating high-quality comprehensive talents in geography, a geographical basic talent training base with distinctive characteristics has been initially formed. Talent training in the base has the following characteristics:

1. Carry out rolling training and tutorial system to effectively improve the quality of talent training in the base:

Select the best and most promising students to enter the base and ensure the quality of talent training in the base. Since the establishment of the base, the "rolling training" mode has been implemented in the base, that is, the comprehensive assessment of the base's academics at the end of each academic year is carried out, and the 2% final elimination system is implemented. Students who are "eliminated" will At the same time, outstanding students from non-base classes can enter the base class after examination.

The tutorial system is fully implemented in the base class, and quasi-graduate training is implemented. Through the two-way choice between students and teachers, the students in the base class are equipped with junior basic learning instructors and senior scientific research instructors, and the learning and scientific research ability of the students in the base class is trained in the whole process. Excellent teachers from the Department of Geography take up their posts to participate in scientific research training in the base: excellent teachers such as Professor Yu Lizhong, President, Professor Xu Shiyuan, Professor Juck Zhang, and Professor Zheng Xiangmin, head of the base, all personally serve as undergraduate tutors.

2. Broaden the scope of students' practice space in the base class through cooperation, exchange and joint practice:

Improve and build a number of stable field practice routes (points) around the construction goal of "four-year continuous line" for students. And constantly explore the operation mode of field practice and internship. For example, we cooperated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to build an overseas internship base in Hong Kong, and six groups of students from the base class attached to Hong Kong for internships, which broadened their horizons. In cooperation with Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University, Lanzhou University, Fujian Normal University and other geographical bases, the "National Geographic Base Joint Practice" was carried out, and the scope of the practice was extended to North China, Northwest China and East China. The scientific research and training mode has received the response and praise from the brother colleges and universities through the exchange at the meeting of the teaching and reference committee and the base work meeting, and they have asked for the training content setting scheme one after another, which has formed a strong radiation and demonstration role in the whole country.
