IUCN has been working in China since 198s. In 1996, the People's Republic of China joined IUCN on behalf of the China government, and China became a national member. China liaison office was established in 23, and IUCN China representative office was formally established in 212. At present, IUCN has 29 member units in China, including 5 in Hongkong. The number of member units in China only accounts for 2.1% of the world. IUCN supports its members and partners through information sharing, international exchange, capacity building and local demonstration projects.
