China Bank and China Merchants Bank are not the same bank. The difference between them lies in their different nature, different time of establishment, different scale and influence, and so on.

First, the nature is different

China Bank is a large state-owned bank managed by the central government and a national deputy ministerial unit; China Merchants Bank is the first joint-stock commercial bank wholly owned by an enterprise legal person in China.

Second, the establishment time is different

China Bank was formally established on February 5, 1912. It is the only bank in China that has been operating continuously for more than a hundred years, and it is also the most internationalized and diversified bank in China.

China Merchants Bank was established in Shekou, Shenzhen in 1987 and is a subsidiary of China Merchants Group.

Third, the scale and influence are different

Banking institutions in China are spread all over the mainland of China and 56 countries and regions, including holding financial institutions such as Bank of China International, Bank of China Investment, Bank of China Fund, Bank of China Insurance, Bank of China Aviation Leasing, Bank of China Consumer Finance, Bank of China Financial Business and Bank of China Hong Kong. In 216, Bank of China was once again selected as a global systemically important bank, becoming the only financial institution in emerging market economies to be selected for six consecutive years. In July, 217, the British "Banker" magazine published the "Top 1 Banks in the World", and Bank of China ranked fourth.

China Merchants Bank is the fifth largest bank in China. Since being shortlisted in the Fortune Global 5 for the first time in 212, it has been shortlisted for seven consecutive years. In 218, it ranked 213th in the Fortune Global 5.

By the first half of 217, China Merchants Bank had more than 1,8 domestic and overseas branches, set up service outlets in more than 13 cities in Chinese mainland, and had 5 overseas branches and 3 overseas representative offices. In addition, China Merchants Bank also wholly owned CMB Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and controlled China Merchants Fund Management Co., Ltd., holding 5% equity of China Merchants Cigna Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and 5% equity of Zhaolian Consumer Finance Company. Wing Lung Bank Limited and CMB International Financial Holdings Limited are wholly-owned in Hong Kong.
