Graduated from the Department of Medicine of West China University of Medical Sciences in 1983, and obtained a master's degree in Gastroenterology from Chongqing Medical University in 1986. In 1986, he served as a resident physician and lecturer in the Department of Gastroenterology at the First Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. In 1992, he studied at the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands under the tutelage of Lamers CBHW, President of the Dutch Society of Gastroenterology, and received his doctorate (PhD) in 1996. After returning to China, he served as director, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Gastroenterology at the First Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.
