Du is the director of the Institute of Rock Mechanics of Ningbo University, a doctoral supervisor and an expert in mine engineering geology. He was born in 1962 Dongyang, Zhejiang. He has a rich professional background. He graduated from Wuhan Geo University with a master's degree from China Geo University and a doctorate from Zhejiang University.

In the academic field, Professor Du "made a great breakthrough in the theory, technology and practice of obtaining shear strength of structural plane and slope stability evaluation". Prior to this, Du worked in Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences, vice president of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and dean of zhejiang industry polytechnic college.
