In accordance with the spirit of the 1985 "Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Reform of the Science and Technology System", Beijing established the Beijing Natural Science Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Municipal Fund) on October 30, 1990.

Its purpose is to strengthen and develop corresponding basic research, discover and cultivate talents according to the needs of Beijing's scientific and technological, economic and social development, so as to promote Beijing's scientific and technological progress and continuously support the capital's economic and social development.
