Early Life
Jay Chou was born in New Taipei City, Taiwan Province, and his ancestral home is Yongchun County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. When Jay Chou was 4 years old, his mother Ye Huimei sent him to Tamkang Shanye Kindergarten Music Class to learn piano. When Jay Chou was in the second grade of junior high school, his parents divorced due to personality differences, and Jay Chou was raised by his mother Ye Huimei. During the high school entrance examination, Jay Chou was not admitted to an ordinary high school; in the same year, he was admitted to the first music class of Tamkang Middle School because he was good at piano. After graduating from high school, he applied for the Music Department of Taipei University twice but was not admitted, so he started working in a restaurant.
