It is a subsidiary of the Department of Ancient Chinese History at Renmin University of China.

The research direction of this center is based on the research accumulation of senior scholars such as Zheng Changgan and Sha Zhi, and a relatively reasonable academic team has been established. Tang and Song History Research Center The Tang and Song History Research Center of Renmin University of China was established in 2010. It is an academic institution composed of teachers related to the ancient Chinese history discipline of Renmin University of China.

The academic team members of this center include Bao Weimin, Hua Linfu, Liu Houbin, Meng Xianshi, Li Xiaoju, Li Quande, Pi Qingsheng, Liu Xinguang, Wang Jing, Yang Mei, Bi Bo, Zhang Naidong, Cao Ganghua, Ding Chao and others.

Sha Zhi, Wu Zongguo, Tian Hao (Hoyt C. Tillman) and others serve as the academic consultants of the center, and Bao Weimin serves as the center director.

The main research topics of this center include: The world of southeastern villages in the Song Dynasty (major basic research project of Renmin University of China, chaired by Bao Weimin), "Tian Sheng Ling" and the study of the government operation mechanism of the Tang Dynasty (National Social Science Fund project, chaired by Liu Houbin)

Institute of Northern Ethnic Archeology The Institute of Northern Ethnic Archeology at Renmin University of China was established in 2004. Professor Wei Jian is the director. Its main research directions are the archeology of ancient northern Chinese peoples, the archeology of Central Asia, and cultural exchanges between central and northwest China.

There are currently 6 full-time researchers and 4 part-time researchers.

There are 12 master students, 4 doctoral students, and 1 postdoctoral mobile station researcher.

In 1978, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Qing History was formally established on its basis.

Since the establishment of the Institute of Qing History at Renmin University of China, it has always focused on researching Qing history, cultivating Qing history professionals and compiling "Qing History", and has made important contributions to the development of the history discipline in New China.

The Institute of Qing History at Renmin University of China is one of the bases for talent training and scientific research in the history discipline of the Ministry of Education. It undertakes the "Qing History Sub-project of the 211 Project's Ninth Five-Year Plan and Tenth Five-Year Plan".

It has six doctoral programs (ancient Chinese history, modern Chinese history, specialized history, historical philology, historical geography, historical theory and historiography) and six master's programs (ancient Chinese history, modern Chinese history, specialized history,

In 1989, the ancient Chinese history major was designated by the State Education Commission as a key subject in higher education institutions across the country.

In 2007, the modern Chinese history major was selected as a national key discipline after rigorous selection.

The Institute of Qing History of Renmin University of China further deepens the reform of the scientific research system in the construction of key research bases.
