School majors: Jilin University of the Arts is the only comprehensive higher art school in Northeast China.

The school's predecessor was the Lu Xun College of Literature and Art of Northeastern University in 1946. In 1958, Jilin Art College was established. In 1978, it was renamed Jilin Art College. In 1993, it obtained the right to grant master's degrees. In 1995, it became the first batch of provincial key disciplines in Jilin Province.
