The school was formerly the Public Security School of the Public Security Department of Hunan Provisional Government, which was established in September. 1949. It has gone through the stages of Hunan Public Security Cadre School, Hunan Political and Legal Cadre School, Hunan Public Security School, Hunan People's Police School and Hunan Public Security College. On March 20 10, Hunan Police College was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

Second, the teaching staff.

In April 2023, official website showed that there were 378 full-time teachers in the school, including 378 teachers with associate senior titles and above 195, and 27 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees/person. Among the teachers, there are 13 national model teachers and excellent teachers in public security system, 45 provincial-level teaching masters, provincial-level young backbone teachers and provincial-level young teaching experts in Hunan Province's "12 1 talent project".

Third, scientific research results.

During the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, the school published 20 academic works and more than 60 scientific research papers1/kloc-0, of which 36 were included by SSCI, SCI and EI. It has obtained 185 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level, including 4 national social science funds, 4 national self-funded projects 1, 4 United Nations projects 1, 9 scientific research projects of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Security 1, and 48 provincial science and technology department projects.
