What is adamantane?
Adamantane (chemical formula: C 10H 16, tricyclic [3.3.1.1(3,7)] decane) is a colorless crystalline solid with camphor flavor. Stable chemical properties, light stability, strong lipophilicity, naturally occurring in petroleum. It is the most stable isomer with the molecular formula of C 10H 16.

The carbon frame structure of adamantane is equivalent to a unit cell in the diamond lattice network. Hence the name adamantane.

1932, the Czech Landa et al. discovered adamantane in the petroleum fraction of South Moravia oilfield. In the second year, its structure was confirmed by X-ray technology. Adamantane was first synthesized by Vladimir Prelog, a Yugoslav chemist living in Switzerland, in 194 1 year by step synthesis.
