Description: I have been working at Starbucks for nearly half a year. I may have missed a lot of things because of this part-time job, but what I have gained will become endless wealth in my life.
Since there are fewer classes in the second semester of my sophomore year and half a year has passed since my surgery, it’s time for physical exercise. So I started looking for a part-time job at the beginning of school. Because my roommate also worked part-time at Starbucks, I went to the Starbucks on Hushu South Road closest to the school. After two rounds of interviews with store managers and district managers, I was lucky enough to get into Starbucks.
What I remember most is the first month of training. Because I wanted to learn everything I needed to do as soon as possible, I spent all my free time outside of class. I ran between classes and work, and it was as if I could only breathe. My body was very tired, and I had to learn a lot. Not only did I need to master theoretical knowledge, but I also needed to be able to practice it. Because I didn’t understand anything, I was at a loss standing at the bar.
When I hit the peak period, I felt like I was causing trouble for everyone, but everyone still taught me patiently. At night, dragging my exhausted body, my mind was too tired to think and the thought of giving up floated across my mind.
Student assistance project: On June 1, 2020, Starbucks announced a targeted donation of approximately 5.5 million yuan to the Asia Foundation, and launched the "Reading the Future" reading assistance program in Yunnan with the public welfare organization "Responsible Person Action" academic projects. Within three years, it is planned to build more than 1,600 graded reading class book corners in 150 rural primary schools and kindergartens in 6 counties and districts in Pu'er and Baoshan, Yunnan, so that about 55,000 local children can obtain better reading resources.
Financial crisis: On January 28, 2009, Starbucks announced that the company would lay off 6,700 employees and close 300 stores in response to the sluggish economic situation. According to the plan announced by Starbucks that day, the company will complete the above plan before the end of September. Starbucks announced plans for large-scale layoffs and store closures in July 2008.
Coloring controversy: On March 29, 2012, media reported that in order to reduce the use of artificial colors, the Starbucks coffee chain announced that it would use cochineal extract to add color to its Strawberry Frappuccino drinks. Starbucks reiterated that using cochineal for color is harmless to humans and has been confirmed safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
