Nantong University was approved by the Ministry of Education in May 24, and was formed by the merger of the former Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology and Nantong Teachers College.

Nantong University is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, the "first city in modern China", with the Yangtze River in the south and the Yellow Sea in the east, just across the river from Shanghai.
