In order to explore the training model of outstanding talents under the background of popular education, in 2000, the school took the lead in establishing intensive classes among normal colleges across the country.

In September 2001, on the basis of the intensive classes, the Intensive Training Department was established, affiliated with the Academic Affairs Office, as the daily management organization of the intensive classes.

In 2003, the Intensive Training Department became an independent teaching unit of the school.

In order to further promote the undergraduate teaching reform of the school, cultivate outstanding undergraduate talents with solid foundation, strong comprehensive ability and high level, and highlight the characteristics of undergraduate talent training of the school, in June 2007, the school decided to restructure the Intensive Training Department into the Intensive Training College.

The School of Intensive Training has now become a special zone for the school’s undergraduate teaching reform, a training base for elite talents and a source base for outstanding postgraduate students.

Growth process ●In November 2000, the first intensive class for outstanding students of Nanjing Normal University opened.

In December of the same year, the school promulgated the "Regulations on the Training of Intensive Classes for Outstanding Students of Nanjing Normal University" (Ning Normal University 2000 No. 37).

●In September 2001, the Strengthening Training Department was established (affiliated with the Academic Affairs Office).

●In December 2001, the Nanjing Normal University Intensive Training Department Steering Committee and Teaching Steering Group were established.

●In June 2002, the appointment meeting for 2000-level student tutors of the Strengthening Training Department was held.

●In December 2003, the Intensive Training Department was changed into an independent teaching unit.

●In December 2004, the school promulgated the "Implementation Opinions of Nanjing Normal University on Accelerating and Strengthening the Reform and Development of the Training Department" (Ning Normal University [2004] No. 126).

●In March 2005, the Department of Intensive Education launched the "Xingzhi" lecture series, inviting about ten experts at home and abroad to give lectures to teachers and students of the Department every year to create a strong academic atmosphere.

●In June 2005, Nanjing Normal University Press invested one million yuan to establish the Xingzhi Talent Scholarship in the Intensive Training Department.

In November of the same year, the first Nanjing Normal University Press Xingzhi Talent Scholarship Award Ceremony was held.

In December of the same year, the Xingzhi Scholarship and Research Assistance Fund of the Strengthening Training Department was established.

●In November 2005, to strengthen cooperation between the Education Department and the Academic Affairs Office***, the "National High-Level Forum on Training Models for Undergraduate Talents" was jointly held, with relevant experts and persons in charge from more than 10 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, and Zhejiang University*

**More than 40 people attended the meeting.

●In June 2006, the "2006 Undergraduate Talent Training Plan of the Strengthening Training Department" was formulated and approved.

●In October 2006, "Intensive Training Department Instructor Briefing" was first published.

●In September 2006, the Party branch directly under the Strengthening and Training Department was restructured into the General Party Branch of the Strengthening and Training Department.

In December of the same year, the Intensive Training Department won the title of Advanced Unit in School Spiritual Civilization Construction in 2006.

●In December 2006, the “Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan of the Strengthening Training Department” was approved by the school.

●In June 2007, the school decided to transform the Intensive Training Department into the Intensive Training College.

●In July 2007, Professor Song Yongzhong, President of Nanjing Normal University, and Professor Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, signed an agreement on entrusting Nanjing University to train undergraduate students in the school's intensive training college.

●On September 8, 2009, the founding meeting of the Strengthening Training College was held grandly.

●In August 2010, the Intensive Training College launched an intensive engineering class, enrolling 20 students in the first class.
