From 65438 to 0998, IFAW started the "Doctor and Dog" animal treatment project in Beijing. This project has touched the hearts of thousands of children and adults. Many dogs, together with their owners, have been taken to schools and hospitals after strict physical fitness and temperament tests, bringing joy and comfort to children and patients. During an interview, a 1 1 year-old boy with Down syndrome never spoke in front of strangers. Accompanied by a puppy, he felt comforted and confident, and even sang a song to the flashlights and cameras of a group of photographers who came to interview.
Regular visits by well-trained dog friends have made patients feel encouragement, happiness and care, and their psychological and physical conditions have also improved significantly. In Beijing, hundreds of physically disabled children and adults learned how to get in touch with new dog friends, touch and feed them, and communicate with them. Parents of students in special education classes in primary schools in Li Xinyuan often talk about how children can improve their communication, learning and caring abilities. The school's special education class was commended by Beijing Education Bureau for successfully adopting innovative animal treatment programs.
In carrying out special education, going into the community and carrying out adoption publicity activities in colleges and universities, the humanistic education concepts involved in IFAW are:
Prevention and treatment of animal cruelty
Provide vaccines and veterinary treatment for companion animals.
Reduce the number of companion animals by sterilization
Be kind to all life, including people and animals, and create a harmonious society.
