Where is the origin of salmon in China?
Qinghai Province is the largest freshwater salmon breeding base in China, and 1 of every three salmon in China comes from Qinghai.

Qinghai is known as the "China Water Tower", with abundant cold water resources. The reservoirs of many large and medium-sized hydropower stations in the province between Longyangxia and Jishixia, the main stream of the Yellow River, are considered as one of the best areas for cage culture of salmon because of their clean water bodies and excellent water quality, with the annual water temperature ranging from 2 degrees Celsius to 22 degrees Celsius.

It is understood that in 20021year, there were 27 salmon and trout farmers (enterprises) in the province, and the cage culture area reached 32.6 hectares. High-quality pollution-free cold-water fish produced in Qinghai, represented by salmon, rainbow trout and golden trout, sell well outside the province, and exported salmon 1600 tons to Russia last year.

History of salmon farming in Qinghai Province

With its unique resource advantages, Qinghai Province began to learn and introduce Norwegian complete sets of cold-water fish cage culture equipment technology and eco-friendly culture equipment in 2007, introduced fish species from the United States, Norway and Denmark, mainly promoted salmon and trout varieties, popularized deep-water large-scale cage culture technology, covered a large area of water along the Yellow River reservoir, and started the demonstration pilot work of land fisheries.

During the period, it has successively broken through key technologies such as artificial propagation of salmon and trout, fry cultivation, artificial bait feeding, large-scale aquaculture, and fish disease prevention and control, and obtained 8 scientific and technological achievements such as fishery basic research and aquaculture technology demonstration and promotion, and 2 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards. The scale of cold-water fish farming in the whole province is also expanding, which also adds more economic value and vitality to the clear Yellow River basin.
