Hefei University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the People's Republic of China. It was established by the Ministry of Education, the People's Government of Anhui Province, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is a national "world-class discipline"

The school was founded in 1945 and changed its name several times. In 1958, it was officially named Hefei University of Technology.

In 1960, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved it as a national key university. After mergers and reorganizations with Anhui Institute of Technology and Anhui Water Conservancy and Electric Power College, it was successively under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Ministry of Mechanical and Electronics Industry, and the Ministry of Education.
