China Three Gorges University is a first-class institution.

China Three Gorges University was established on May 25, 2000 by the merger of the former Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Power (Yichang) and the former Hubei Three Gorges University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is the first university established by the Ministry of Water Resources and Hubei Province and was selected as the No.

The second batch of "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", the Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Colleges and Universities (Phase II), and the "Domestic First-Class University" Construction College in Hubei Province.

The predecessor of the original Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Power (Yichang) was the Gezhouba Hydropower Engineering College established in 1978. It was successively affiliated to the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry, and the State Electric Power Company. In 1996, it merged with the original Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Power to form a new university.

Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Power has become an important part of the "211 Project" university construction.

Faculty: The school has 2,041 full-time teachers, including 383 professors, 1,060 associate professors, and 813 teachers with doctorate degrees; there is 1 member of the Discipline Evaluation Group (Water Conservancy Engineering Group) of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

There are 128 doctoral supervisors and 1,045 master's supervisors; 5 people have been approved by Hubei Province's "Hundred Talents Plan", 50 disciplines have been approved by the "Chutian Scholars Program", and specially appointed professors and lecturers have been approved by the "Chutian Scholars Program"
