The University of Delaware, referred to as UD or UDel, is located in Newark, Delaware, in the eastern United States. It is one of the oldest first-class public research universities in the United States, the "public Ivy League University" in the United States, the "ultra-high research university" of Carnegie Education Foundation, and the first-class national university in the United States. It was rated as one of the best universities by Princeton Review.
It is the first higher education institution in Delaware and the first school in the United States to offer overseas study programs. The school was founded in 1743, formerly known as Newark College, and officially renamed the University of Delaware in 192 1, also known as the University of Delaware.
