Interview with Yan Boyu, President and CEO of Porsche China.

[car home? Interview with people]? On October 23rd, at the launch ceremony of Tongji Electric Racing Team in Shanghai Porsche Experience Center, we had the honor to interview Dr. Yan Boyu, President and CEO of Porsche China, and Ms. Tang Fengliang, Vice President of Public Relations of Porsche China Media, and learned more about the cooperation between Porsche China and Tongji University. The following is the shorthand of this interview. Q: I have two questions. The first is the cooperation between Porsche and Tongji University. What is the significance for Porsche? Second question, what are the main specific forms of knowledge and talent exchange between Porsche and Tongji University? Yan Boyu: Porsche has always had a tradition of school-enterprise cooperation, and Porsche all over the world has maintained cooperation and contact with local universities. In China, our cooperative relationship with Tongji University has a long history. First of all, many employees in our company graduated from Tongji University Automotive College. What's more worth mentioning is that Oliver, Chairman of Porsche Global Executive Board? Mr Blume) is also a Ph.D. graduate of Tongji University Automobile College, and this origin also makes him pay special attention to our cooperation with Tongji University. As early as 214, Porsche Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and Tongji University have cooperated in the fields of science, research, teaching, test facilities and practical experience. Last April, when Mr. Obomou visited China, Tongji University and we signed a five-year Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU), which further expanded the scope of cooperation in many important areas, including three core contents. The first is to strengthen the exchange of knowledge and talents in automotive technology. For example, Porsche provides five internship positions for students of Tongji University Automotive College every year, and interns can choose to complete internship tasks in China or Germany according to the types of internship projects. Secondly, funded by Porsche China, a fund chair was set up in the Sino-German College of Tongji University, mainly engaged in the research on the direction of automobile control and networked automatic driving. Third, it is the sponsorship and technical support for Tongji electric motorcade. Speaking of Tongji Electric Team, Porsche China will provide the team with an annual sponsorship of 3, RMB from 219. In addition to financial support, we also have a lot of in-depth technical guidance and help in content. In July last year, the "Charging Plan" of Porsche-Tongji Electric Team was officially launched. This project invited senior Porsche engineering experts from Germany and went to Shanghai several times to provide professional training and technical guidance for the team. The training content includes the evaluation and testing of racing cars, track test, driving skills and so on. This year, due to the global epidemic, the plan that senior Porsche engineering experts flew to Shanghai in March to train students was forced to be cancelled, so the "charging plan" of Porsche-Tongji Electric Team was promoted in a special way combining online and offline. On-line technical guidance training was officially launched on March 1th this year. Porsche senior engineering experts in Stuttgart, Germany held two communication meetings with the members of the electric motorcade through network connection, including the design and adjustment of suspension system for new car design and the design of electrical system for electric racing cars. In August, in order to help Tongji electric motorcade prepare for war? 22? In the China University Students' Electric Formula Competition, we "tailor-made" the core members of the team at the Porsche Experience Center and conducted offline technical training. The content combines the advantages of Porsche Experience Center, mainly focusing on driving skills in the competition. As we all know, the whole corporate social responsibility framework of Porsche China contains many cooperation projects in different fields. Apart from focusing on the training of young artists, we have been paying attention to education and talent training in various fields, which is the biggest original intention of our initial in-depth cooperation with Tongji University. The cooperation with Tongji University and the training of automobile professionals are not only a corporate social responsibility, but also contribute to the future and sustainable development of China's automobile industry. In the long run, they also create a good environment and opportunities for Porsche's own business development in China. Q: What is the deepening and promotion of the cooperation between Porsche and Tongji University by setting up a fund chair in the Sino-German College of Tongji University? What is the specific content of the fund chair project? Yan Boyu: Just mentioned, last year, Porsche and Tongji University signed a memorandum of cooperation and started further cooperation. The main research area of concern is automobile intelligence and interconnection. We all know that autonomous driving and urban traffic management based on big data are a new development direction of the automobile industry in the future. We also see China's great potential and market demand in this respect, so we hope to further explore the development trend in this field and see what China's solution is in this respect. The foundation chair we set up in the Sino-German College of Tongji University is a funded project within the framework of our cooperation with Tongji University. This cooperation is of great benefit to both of us. On the one hand, Tongji University can conduct in-depth research in this field and bring forward-looking insights to the industry. On the other hand, Porsche can also participate in relevant learning and development processes and continuously improve its own technological development. In addition, the Fund Chair will further deepen the traditional ties between Tongji University and Germany and support the academic capacity building of Tongji University. The in-depth development of the Porsche Chair project will also ensure the cultivation of high-quality talents needed for the economic development of China and Germany to a great extent, and promote the cultivation of high-end scientific research and outstanding young scientific research talents. Tang Fengliang: I would like to add that Sino-German College is an international cooperative education institution initiated by the Chinese and German governments in 1998. It mainly has four departments: electronic and information engineering, mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, and economics and management. The chair we set up is a chair under the Department of Vehicle Engineering. Many other companies, especially those in the automobile field, will also fund chairs in various research directions. In fact, the whole contract was signed last year, but due to the epidemic this year, the official appointment of the chair professor was not settled until September. At present, both China and Germany have confirmed that Professor Chen Hong from Tongji University Automotive College is a professor, who is mainly engaged in the research of automobile control and networked automatic driving direction. Professor Chen is a senior professor of Jilin University. In the next few months, we will work with Tongji University to set the main goals of the academic research of the Chair, as well as the medium-term and short-term sub-goals. Q: The cooperation between Porsche Headquarters and the University of Stuttgart has a long history, including a lot of cooperation with the Formula Team of the University of Stuttgart. What experience can Tongji University learn from the cooperation between schools and enterprises? Yan Boyu: Generally speaking, I think it is very important for universities and enterprises to establish direct contact and cooperation, because schools can adjust their teaching and research methods in time to meet the needs of the industry. On the other hand, enterprises can also obtain the latest R&D results through cooperation between the two parties, update their knowledge in time, and constantly improve their technological competitiveness. The relationship between Stuttgart University and Porsche Headquarters is very close, for example, in the field of research and development, as well as production-related fields, and there are many other aspects of cooperation. In the past, we didn't have such cooperation in China, but now we not only have cooperation with Tongji University, but also will further strengthen and deepen this cooperative relationship in the future, especially focusing on research and development, vehicle interconnection and intelligence. Because we know that to produce products suitable for China market and recognized by customers in China, we must develop them in China, which may be very different from the products we developed in Germany, so we hope to strengthen cooperation with Tongji University. For the young students of Tongji University, we will provide them with excellent internship opportunities and let them feel what it is like to work in a very mature automobile company. At the same time, we also have the opportunity to meet these very talented young people and attract them to join the Porsche team, which is very beneficial to both of us. Finally, I would like to emphasize that Porsche attaches great importance to motor racing, so we have spared no effort to support and sponsor Tongji Electric Team and provide them with various kinds of help to compete in the Formula One Series of World University Students. Because all the technologies on Porsche cars are applied to racing cars at the beginning, we know that when a car's technological performance has passed the test of the track, it will certainly bring outstanding sportiness to our products, so we say "born on the track, galloping on the road", which is the philosophy that Porsche has always adhered to. Q: I want to ask you two questions. First of all, because Germany is a country that started school-enterprise cooperation in the automobile industry earlier, in your opinion, what is the development stage of school-enterprise cooperation in the automobile field in China at present? After Porsche's intervention, what new development ideas will be brought to the school-enterprise cooperation of China Automobile? This is a problem. The other, China International Import Expo(CIIE), will be launched soon, because this time China belongs to the earliest country in the world with comprehensive economic recovery and epidemic control, and it is also an axis country that drives the global economic recovery. So what kind of good news does the new open cooperation opportunities brought by this Expo have for import manufacturers like Porsche? Yan Boyu: What you just said is right. Porsche and other German companies have a very long tradition in school-enterprise cooperation, especially in engineering. Because in Germany, many colleges and universities, such as Munich University, usually follow some important world-renowned car companies in their site selection. There are Porsche headquarters and Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, and BMW headquarters in Munich. The reason is that, on the one hand, these car companies hope to absorb as many engineering talents as possible, and on the other hand, they also attach great importance to obtaining resources for basic research in universities. Because enterprises usually don't have time, laboratory and other related facilities and conditions to do basic research, it is very beneficial for us to strengthen the contact between the two sides. As for what you just mentioned, what can Porsche bring to Tongji University or the cooperation between the two parties? We know that Porsche is a pure imported sports car manufacturer, and we don't produce locally in China. What kind of value can Porsche bring? First of all, we have a good brand effect. In addition, our products are very attractive. We believe that Porsche's competitive sports car products can stimulate young students' enthusiasm and thinking about vehicles and future travel development, and even encourage them to become ambassadors of automobile culture and cultivate sports car culture more widely in the China market. At the same time, Porsche has rich experience in motor racing. We can provide professional help to Tongji Electric Team through our own technical advantages, such as instructing them how to manage the team, develop technology, test products, and even drive racing cars, because even if you have a car with outstanding performance, you need a skilled driver to control it. As you all know, the third China International Import Expo(CIIE) is about to open, and we will hold a press conference with Volkswagen Group on November 5th. Our main focus in China International Import Expo(CIIE) this time is electric vehicle products. You just mentioned that China is the first country to get out of the epidemic. We have seen the rapid recovery of production capacity and steady economic recovery after the epidemic, but it is a pity that Europe is experiencing the second wave of epidemic, and it may take some time before the epidemic in Europe is completely controlled. At the beginning of China International Import Expo(CIIE), first of all, we would like to thank and admire the China government for its timely and effective control of the epidemic, and we are also very grateful for the support of the China market. China's economic recovery has also brought great confidence and help for Porsche's business to get back on track. In addition, Porsche's next investment will focus on sustainable development. Although I just mentioned that Porsche may be a relatively small-scale automobile manufacturer compared with other big companies, we also want to show other brands and China consumers through China International Import Expo(CIIE) that we have had very successful experience and achievements in importing automobiles in China. Over the years, we have established a close cooperative relationship with the government of China. No matter the Shanghai government or other local governments, we have established a good cooperative foundation, which has greatly promoted the continued prosperity and development of Porsche in the China market. We also want to use the platform of China International Import Expo(CIIE) to show other enterprises that it is not only possible to do imported car business in China, but also can develop very well.
