Undergraduate education in the college is based on the first-level major majors in materials science and engineering. Basic courses and professional basic courses are unified in the first two years of admission. After the third grade, students are divided into metal materials science and engineering, materials physics, materials chemistry, materials forming and control engineering, and inorganic materials.

Training is provided in 8 professional directions including non-metallic materials engineering, functional polymer materials, surface science and engineering, and nanoscience and technology.

The college has a doctoral program and a postdoctoral mobile station in the first-level discipline of materials science and engineering, covering three second-level disciplines of materials physics and chemistry, materials science, and materials processing engineering, which can award doctoral and master's degrees.

The college has a national-level experimental teaching demonstration center and has won one first-class national teaching achievement award and three provincial and ministerial-level teaching achievement awards.

In order to motivate and support students to study hard, in addition to the scholarships established by the school, the college also has a number of scholarships donated by society, including the "Shi Changxu Scholarship" established by Mr. Shi Changxu, a famous materials scientist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the American Applied Materials Scholarship.
