Brother's lower limb edema, venous thrombosis can be cleared without amputation

Brothers Su Mingxuan and Su Mingmu, who live in Xiang'an District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, have suffered from lower limb edema and long-term wound ulcers for more than ten years due to congenital abnormal coagulation function.

Last year, Xiamen doctors determined that amputation was necessary, so the Su brothers sought medical assistance from Taiwan.

Later, through the efforts of Taipei Tzu Chi’s medical team, they used vein dredging surgery, which took nearly a month, and finally cured the condition, saving the brothers from the pain of amputation.

Brothers Su Mingjiang (second from left) and Su Mingmu (first from left) traveled across the sea to seek medical treatment. They were personally treated by physician Wu Dianyu (third from right) and were discharged successfully.

Su Mingmu has suffered from illness for more than 10 years, and his parents, who are farmers, have spent all their money to seek medical treatment, but they have been unable to cure him.

The venous thrombosis was cleared and the swollen feet disappeared. With the help of Lin Junlong, CEO of Tzu Chi Foundation’s Medical Mission, the Su brothers successfully crossed the sea to Taiwan to seek medical treatment.

On January 5 this year, the Su brothers were admitted to Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital. The doctor arranged various examinations such as vascular ultrasound, MRI, and cardiac catheterization to confirm that the Su brothers' symptoms were caused by congenital abnormal blood coagulation function.

The treatment process mainly involves venous thrombosis dredging surgery. First, three nickel-titanium alloy 14mm stents were installed on the veins of his younger brother Su Mingmu's right lower limb, and supplemented by the newly developed and original "local balloon thrombolysis method" on the right thigh. This treatment method

, the anticoagulant and thrombus solvent are injected in and then withdrawn, which can achieve local effects without the risk of systemic bleeding.

His elder brother, Su Mingxiao, suffered from venous thrombosis in both lower limbs and needed to rebuild the blood route back to the heart. The medical team specially installed two 14mm stents on Su Mingxiao's left and right feet.

After the vein dredging surgery, the medical team continued to provide the two brothers with debridement, dressings, hyperbaric oxygen, lymph circulation and other treatments. After nearly a month of hard work, the brothers' wounds were recovering well, and the originally swollen feet had disappeared.
