In 2016, the Trademark Review and Adjudication Committee of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce made two rejection reviews and five denial-of-registration reviews regarding the "Moutai State Banquet" trademark.
On May 25, 2018, the National Trademark Review and Adjudication Board, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, combined with the opinions of the industry and relevant parties, registered the "National Liquor Moutai" trademark proposed by Kweichow Moutai Distillery (Group) Co., Ltd. The application was reviewed and the decision was “not allowed to be registered”.
In August, Moutai Company sued the Beijing Intellectual Property Court due to the failure to register the "National Liquor Moutai" trademark. Later, Moutai Company voluntarily withdrew the lawsuit, and the "National Liquor Moutai" trademark was ultimately not approved for registration.

On September 17, 2019, following the failure of the “National Liquor” trademark application, Moutai Group was once again rejected by the court in the “National Banquet” trademark dispute.
The Beijing Intellectual Property Court found after trial that the "Moutai National Banquet" trademark was registered and used on alcoholic products, which would easily cause the relevant public to misunderstand the quality and other characteristics of the products, and would also be detrimental to other operators in the same industry. Fairly, the lawsuit filed by China Kweichow Moutai Distillery (Group) Co., Ltd. was finally dismissed, and the case has taken effect.
