How much does a US trademark actually cost? What are the costs involved?

The best thing is to register in the United States through the Madrid International Registration Designation.

A foreign-related application must be handled by an agency in the country. The same applies to foreign applications in my country, and there are clear provisions in the Trademark Law.

So foreign-related applications are all done through domestic agencies, who apply on their behalf and contact foreign cooperative agencies for communication. During this period, foreign agencies will charge fees, and there will also be a lot of translation work, so the cost is relatively high compared to domestic ones. Foreign legal service industry charges are generally higher than domestic ones.

Registering in the United States through Madrid should be considered to be the lower cost among several international registration forms. Of course, if certain circumstances arise, subsequent costs may be higher than other forms.

Fees: Basic Madrid registration fee of 653 Swiss francs + separate US registration fee + domestic agency agency fee + foreign agency agency fee (generally domestic agencies will charge directly based on cost) + translation fee.

At the same time, Madrid registration requires a domestic basis: you must obtain the domestic "Trademark Acceptance Notice" before you can file a foreign-related application.

The difference between Madrid and other methods is: low security, high risk, and no inquiry work

Cost: The initial application fee is low, but fees may be incurred later.

So it is recommended that you consult with a regular domestic agency. If the trademark is highly distinctive and has great success abroad, then Madrid registration will not incur subsequent fees and the cost will be the lowest.
