The city of Wanning is located in the southeast of Hainan. It has a hot and rainy tropical maritime monsoon climate. It has titles such as "Hometown of Betel Nuts" and "Hometown of Longevity". In this way, the Qin Dynasty general Zhao Tuo was able to take advantage of the decline of the Qin Dynasty to establish himself in Baiyue, and the Nanyue Kingdom, which included Hainan, was established.

After entering the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, turmoil broke out in South Vietnam. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty immediately sent troops south to quell the chaos. After the turmoil was quelled, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty established Zhizhuya County and Dan'er County respectively on Hainan Island for jurisdiction. The city of Wanning was under the jurisdiction of Zhuya County at that time. In the subsequent development, Wanning's name and jurisdiction changed several times. After Hainan Island was established as a province in 1988, Wanning was officially placed under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province. After another eight years or so, Wanning, which was originally just a county, was approved to be upgraded to a city.

Because Wanning faces the South China Sea to the east, it has a long and narrow coastline and a vast sea area. In addition, Wanning is located in a low latitude area with high temperatures and rain all year round. However, Wanning is a city that does not experience severe summer heat, as its average summer temperature remains around 28°C. As far as rainfall is concerned, the number of rainfall days in Wanning can reach more than 150 days a year, mainly in summer. In addition to abundant rainfall, Wanning also enjoys abundant sunshine. Based on these climatic factors, betel nut, pineapple and other plants are widely planted in Wanning City.

As far as pineapples are concerned, Wanning pineapples have also entered the picking season a few days ago. Longgun Town, located in Wanning City, grows 36,000 acres of pineapples and can produce about 46,000 tons of pineapples every year. In Hainan Province, Wanning is the famous "Hometown of Pineapples". Because Taiwanese pineapples are prohibited from entering the mainland this year due to quarantine issues, mainland pineapples are particularly popular this year. As one of the main pineapple producing areas, Wanning's pineapple sales this year are also very gratifying. Judging from the current sales situation, Wanning Longgun Town has supplied nearly 4,000 tons of pineapples.

In addition to being known as the "Hometown of Pineapples", Wanning is also known as the "Hometown of Betel Nuts in China" and the "Hometown of Longevity in the World". In addition, there are scenic spots such as Dongshanling Cultural Tourism Zone and Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, as well as local representative delicacies such as Dongshan goat, Le crab and Hong Kong northern prawns.
