In the 4th year of the Republic of China (1915), the Panama-Pacific International Exposition was held in San Francisco, USA. At that time, Li Yushan, a squire, carpenter and tea merchant from Tanghu area (then known as Sanyi Township), sent several kilograms of Gougunao tea to the San Francisco exhibition in the United States, and received a gold medal and certificate. In the 19th year of the Republic of China, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces held a joint exhibition of Zhejiang and Jiangxi specialties, and presented Gougunao tea to the exhibition and won the first prize. Therefore, Gougunao tea was also known as "Yushan tea" at that time. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the name of Gougunao tea was restored.

In 1982, a province-wide famous tea competition was held in Lushan hosted by the Jiangxi Provincial Supply and Marketing Cooperative, and Gougunao tea was rated as one of the eight famous teas in Jiangxi.

In 1985, in Nanchang, hosted by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, a province-wide famous tea competition was held, and Gougunao tea won the high-quality traditional famous tea certificate.

In 1988, the China Food Industry Association held the first China Food Expo in Beijing, and Gougunao tea won the gold medal.

In 1989, the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government awarded Gougunao Tea as the quality product of Jiangxi Province.
