Selection and use of cement

Home decoration is inseparable from cement, such as plastering, applying block facing materials, and repairing and plugging leaks. Cement is required for building sporadic projects. If the cement is improperly selected or the cement of substandard quality is used, it will lead to leaks in the kitchen and bathroom; the walls and ceilings will become powdery, fall off or peel off; and the decorative materials will become loose. In order to avoid these troubles caused by cement, here is some knowledge on how to choose and use cement in home decoration.

nHigh-quality cement mainly has the following points:

1) The cement paper bags are well packaged and fully labeled. The markings on the paper bag include: factory name, production license number, cement name, registered trademark, variety (including variety code), label, packaging year, month, day and serial number. Different types of cement are marked with different colors. Portland cement and ordinary Portland cement are marked with red, slag cement is marked with green, and pozzolan cement and fly ash cement are marked with black.

2) Twist the cement powder with your fingers and feel a little fine, sandy and powdery feeling, indicating that the cement fineness is normal.

3) The color is dark gray or dark green.

4) There is no moisture and caking phenomenon.

N-quality cement mainly has the following points:

1) The marking items on the cement packaging bag are incomplete (such as the factory name, production license number, cement name, Registered trademark, variety, label, packaging year, month, day and serial number, etc.), because the national standard stipulates that the cement variety, label, factory name and factory number in the cement packaging label are not qualified products.

2) Check the opening and find that there is moisture and agglomeration.

3) When you twist the cement powder with your fingers, you will feel that there are more coarse sand powder and many coarse and hard particles, indicating that the cement has a coarse fineness and is abnormal.

4) Cement that is yellow or white in color (yellow indicates that the clinker is raw material and the whitening slag content is too much) has relatively low strength.

nWhen purchasing cement, be sure to check the production date of the cement. Cement also has a production date, and the performance of cement that exceeds the validity period of 30 days has declined. The strength of cement dropped by 10-20 after three months of storage, by 15-30 after six months, and by 25-40 after one year. High-quality cement can set in more than 6 hours. Cement that cannot set for more than 12 hours is of poor quality. If a worker tells you that the tiles from a day ago can still be removed and replaced, etc., then the cement must be of poor quality. Then after 2-3 months, some tiles may bulge and fall off! The old cement number is 425, the new number is 32.5, and the performance is the same. If the cement you buy is 425, you should pay attention to whether it has expired.

nIt is best to use cement to lay tiles, not just adhesive. When preparing plastering mortar in the project, it is required that the bonding force between the mortar and the base layer is good, so when preparing, more cement should be used. In order to enhance the bonding force, 5-10% glue or polyester vinyl emulsion is often added to the mortar.

nWhen cement is used as the bonding material, the cement used should be qualified cement of 425# or above and cannot expire. The sand used should be sieved medium and coarse sand, and the mortar ratio is: cement:sand=1:2 (volume ratio).

n Floor tiles should be laid dry, and wall tiles should be laid wet.

n Each pack of cement is 50 kilograms, and its dosage is roughly as follows: 5-6 packs for a single room of 15 square meters; 8-9 packs for a one-and-a-half-square-meter room of 24 square meters; two rooms of 32 square meters. One living room uses 10-11 bags; three bedrooms and one living room of 41 square meters uses about 13-14 bags. For sub-zero cement construction, add antifreeze.
