FSC forest certification, also known as wood certification, is a tool to promote sustainable forest management and achieve ecological, social and economic goals by using market mechanism. FSC forest certification includes forest management certification and chain of custody certification.
Forest management certification, also known as forest sustainable management certification or FSC forest certification for short, is a process in which an independent third-party FSC forest certification institution reviews forest management performance according to established forest management standards and recognized principles and standards to prove that it meets the requirements of sustainable management.
Chain certification of production and marketing supervision is to identify all the production links of wood processing enterprises, including the whole chain of log transportation, processing and circulation, to ensure that the final products come from certified well-run forests. After passing the certification, the enterprise has the right to indicate the name and trademark of the certification system on its products, that is, the certification mark of forest products.
Authentication procedure
1. Evaluate the necessity of FSC forest certification. Forest management units should confirm whether it is necessary to carry out certification, that is, certification will bring benefits to enterprise management. If certification will improve the market competitiveness of products, the benefits of certification will exceed the cost of certification.
2. Select the appropriate certification certificate and certification body. Forest management units should decide which certification system to choose according to the demand of consumers or markets for certain certification certificates.
3. Conduct internal evaluation. Before the formal certification, the forest management unit should conduct an internal preliminary assessment, including the selection of certification standards, the interpretation of standards adapted to local conditions, and the use of standards to evaluate the business activities of enterprises to determine the degree to which the unit meets the certification requirements.
4. Improve and perfect forest management to achieve good forest management. After the internal assessment, the forest management unit should improve the shortcomings in forest management, such as defining the management objectives and taking practical implementation steps.
