Isaac Asimov
Isaac Asimov
( 1920- 1992)
brief introduction
Isaac asimov, a famous American science fiction writer, was prolific all his life. He wrote nearly 500 books in his life, including more than 100 science fiction, which has far exceeded the level of "equivalent works". He is one of the best science fiction writers in this century. He has won Hugo Award, the highest honor in science fiction, and Master Award of Nebula Lifetime Achievement Award. Asimov Science Fiction Magazine named after him is one of the best science fiction literary towns in America today.
The doctor of chemistry from Columbia University, an associate professor at Boston University, first wrote science fiction as an amateur, and 1958 began to write full-time. With his profound scientific knowledge and rich imagination, he soon became a striking science writer. His science fiction novels are represented by Robots and Bases, and other popular science works include A Brief History of Biochemistry, A Brief History of Chemistry, A Carbon World, The Moon, Marine Knowledge, Space Knowledge, Introduction to the Bible and Introduction to Shakespeare. Asimov's robot changed the old slave tools of robots in science fiction or the monster face of human enemies, and began to become friends and relatives of human beings. The "three laws of robots" formulated by him in science fiction has always been regarded as the classic of robot science fiction, and this law has almost become the law that science fiction writers must follow when creating works about robots in the future.
Asimov interprets his sci-fi world with real material science and human phenomena, and adds detective and mystery novels to make his works vivid, gripping and hilarious.
Creative process
Asimov is a Russian-American Jew. 1920 was born in Russia. At the age of 3, his family moved to the United States and obtained American citizenship five years later. Asimov's father owns several candy chain stores in Brooklyn, new york, and Asimov helps to look after the stores while reading. Asimov's father is very conservative and strict with his children. Asimov was forbidden to read newspapers and books such as violent pornography, so Asimov chose science fiction and became obsessed with it from the age of 9.
/kloc-at the age of 0/8, Asimov submitted his first novel, Cosmic Bottle Opener, to the science fiction magazine edited by Campbell, a famous science fiction writer and editor, but Campbell thought it was "too long as a short story and too short as a novel" and he "didn't like the slow beginning and the suicide ending". However, Campbell gave Asimov great encouragement. Results1March 939, Asimov finally published his first work, Escape from Vesta.
In the same year, Asimov received a bachelor's degree in Colombia and a master's degree in literature at 194 1. Asimov joined the army in World War II. After the war, he obtained his doctorate in 1948 and entered the university to teach. Asimov created a large number of sci-fi works in his life, including two series: "Base" series and "Robot" series.
The series "Base" shows readers a vast picture of the universe. Its story takes place in the distant future, when human beings have spread all over 2.5 million planets and the population has reached 1000, forming a real cosmic empire. At this time, a social psychologist has come to the conclusion that the empire is about to collapse, human society will enter the dark period of 30 thousand years, and all civilizations will disappear; But if the base is established according to his method, the fire of human civilization can be maintained and the dark period can be shortened to 1000. As a result, "physics base" and "psychology base" have been established one after another, and they will complete the arduous task of preserving and developing human civilization. ...
The short stories in Robot series are mainly included in the collections of I, Robot and Another Robot, among which I, Robot has been introduced in this magazine before. In addition, Asimov's sci-fi novels about robots also include the novels Steel Cave and Naked Days. Asimov established a set of behavioral norms and moral standards for robots with his "three laws of robots", thus deducing a series of beautiful stories with strong reasoning and logic. In this issue, I want to introduce Asimov's long mystery detective science fiction "The Steel Cave".
In addition to the above two series, Asimov has many popular sci-fi works, such as Twilight, which describes the starry sky of a civilized planet once in a thousand years, Gods themselves, which describes aliens in a "parallel world", and his only time travel, Eternal Doomsday, and so on.
As a scientific worker, Asimov not only writes science fiction, but also writes popular science works, and his popular science works are equally insatiable. As a critic said after Asimov's death, "His works delighted millions of people and changed their view of the world."
Main work
Rock in the air (1950), space tide (1952), steel cave (1953), doomsday (1955), naked sun (1956) and base trilogy.
Base series: base edge (1982), robot in dawn world (1984), robot and galactic empire (1985), base and earth (1986), base prelude (65438)
Bases and Robots are the most popular masterpieces of Asimov. These seemingly independent stories, which run through each other, are actually a long epic that has been pitching for 20 thousand years! Asimov deliberately enlarged the sci-fi scene, built his own unique sci-fi world under the background of the whole galaxy, and discussed the interactive influence of human nature and political, economic, military and other civilized elements through the rise and fall history of the galactic empire. This kind of macroscopic vision makes his works shine everywhere with the brush strokes of caring for the future of mankind, which goes beyond the limitations of ordinary science fiction works.
Brief introduction of some works
Base trilogy: Base: Base is the first part of the base trilogy. The galactic empire that ruled the galaxy 12000 has gradually declined. There was only a generation of teachers in psychohistory, Harry? Seldon foresaw that people in the galaxy would experience a dark period of 30,000 years, full of ignorance, barbarism and war. Seldon then managed to set up a "base" on a desolate planet on the edge of the Milky Way, hoping that it would become a beacon of hope for future generations of mankind. However, with the gradual decline of the empire, the base was surrounded by militant strong neighbors. Humans are also faced with painful choices, throwing themselves at each other and willing to be controlled? Or fight regardless of the danger of being wiped out?
The trilogy of base series: base and earth: base and earth is the second in the trilogy of base series. The future fate of the galaxy depends on someone's mind, and this person is Glenn Trevize. He must decide between the first base, the second base and Gaia who will dominate the future of the galaxy: the new empire created by the first base will lead the galaxy into the century of scientific and technological prosperity; The new empire guided by the second base will ensure the permanent peace of mankind; Gaia galaxy, with Gaia as the blueprint, will be a syncope of the mind, and all mankind will be integrated into a beautiful whole with everything. Trevize made an intuitive choice, but he was not sure whether his choice was correct. He suspects that there are more powerful manipulation forces hidden in the universe. Trevize thinks that the earth is the key to solve all mysteries, because the earth is the home star of human origin. Strangely, all the information about the earth in the galaxy has mysteriously disappeared. Determined to find out the real Trevize, wandering in the sinister starry sky again, looking for what secrets were hidden on the earth 20 thousand years ago, will Trevize change his decision?
The base trilogy: The second base: The second base is the third part of the base trilogy. The existence of the mysterious second base has become the target of public criticism. The mule wants to eradicate it, and the immigrants at the first base must find it for completely different reasons, but where is it? This story is the legend of the parties looking for the second base. Mules tried their best to find and eradicate the second base, but failed. Later, the base personnel also tried their best to find a second base because they didn't want to hand over the achievements of building a new empire. No one expected that the clue they were looking for was actually maintained on a little girl. Fourteen-year-old Agatha was scared to death. What secret did she discover about the second base?
