asa is a terpolymer composed of acrylonitrile, styrene and acrylic rubber, and it is a kind of engineering plastics.
ASA is a terpolymer composed of acrylonitrile, Styrene and Acrylate rubber, which belongs to impact modified resin. It was successfully developed in 197s. ASA is a major product of GEPlastics, a subsidiary of General Electric (GE) in the United States, and it was registered as a trademark of Geloy in August 22.
ASA has strong weather resistance. If there are double bonds in polymer, the double bonds will be easily opened by ultraviolet rays in sunlight with high energy intensity, which will cause the aging resistance of polymer to decline. ASA replaces butadiene rubber with unsaturated double bonds in ABS with acrylic rubber without unsaturated double bonds.
therefore, it can not only resist the degradation, aging and discoloration caused by ultraviolet radiation, but also strongly protect the decomposition or discoloration caused by high temperature during oxidation processing in the atmosphere, thus greatly improving the aging resistance and weather resistance of the material. According to the test results, the aging resistance of ASA is more than 1 times that of ABS.
application field of ASA
automobile field: after a long period of wind erosion, ASA will not gradually turn gray like specially treated aging-resistant ABS (due to wind erosion or water flow, many micro-cracks and cavitation on the surface). The typical applications of ASA are exterior components such as exterior mirrors, radiator grilles, tail baffles, lampshades, etc. that can withstand harsh conditions such as sun exposure, rain and strong wind. It has gradually extended to motorcycle panels, camping cars, small hulls, surfboards and other fields.
Horticultural field: ASA has been proved to be particularly suitable for horticultural irrigation equipment and lawn cutter housings.
Electronic and electrical field: it is preferentially used for the housings of durable equipment, such as sewing machines, telephones, kitchen equipment, satellite antennas and other all-weather housings.
Building field: ASA/PVC admixture is used for roof panels and window materials, which has been applied abroad for more than 1 years.
