The meaning of burning incense: firstly, it means to offer piety and respect to the Three Jewels, and to lead all living beings by example; secondly, it means to convey information in the void Dharma Realm, and to be inspired by the blessings of the Three Jewels in the ten directions; thirdly, it means to burn oneself, spreading incense in all directions, and reminding The selfless dedication of Buddhist disciples; fourth, it means that it ignites the true incense of precepts and concentration among Buddhists, and contains the meaning of a silent vow to "practice precepts, concentration, and wisdom diligently, and eliminate greed, anger, and ignorance." The Buddha does not like the big and expensive fragrances in the world, but But I like the fragrance of Buddhist disciples’ precepts and concentration. When applying incense, hold the incense stick between your index and middle fingers, your ring finger and little finger should also overlap each other, put your thumbs on the bottom of the incense stick, and slowly raise it between your eyebrows to form an incense inquiry ceremony. When inserting three incense sticks into the incense burner, hold one incense stick with your right hand and insert it first into the middle one, then the one on the right side, and then the one on the left side. They should be inserted in the right direction without being skewed. When you then worship the Buddha, you should not kneel on the worship mat in the middle. It would be disrespectful and disrespectful to prostrate oneself in the middle in a swaggering manner. It is best to worship Buddha without a mat. Practitioners should choose one side, do not choose the pure and filthy, and worship on the spot. When worshiping, you should be solemn, unsmiling, and look at no one. You should not care about other people's laughter, contempt, or even comments about you. Superstition, this is the time to endure humiliation and eliminate karma. When worshiping Buddha, you should not use three prostrations and nine prostrations. It is better to use the ancient Indian five-body prostration. The so-called five bodies refer to the forehead, two elbows and two knees. Non-Buddhists usually use it as a form of bowing (clasping fists in front of the chest), kneeling three times, and kowtowing three times, which is not in line with Buddhist etiquette. When burning incense and worshiping the Buddha, you should have a pure mind, so that you can be spotless and receive boundless blessings. If you want to make a wish, you should give up the idea of ??selfishness and benefiting yourself at the expense of others, and make a great wish to benefit society and benefit all sentient beings. Then the merits will be immeasurable. The Buddhist scriptures say, "One bow to the Buddha will destroy sins; one recitation of the Buddha's name will increase blessings immeasurably." When worshiping Buddha and Bodhisattvas, it is generally appropriate to use the above three sticks of incense. This means the three unobstructed learning of "precepts, concentration, and wisdom", and also means making offerings to the three eternal treasures of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. This is the most complete and civilized offering of burning incense. The amount of incense does not matter, the most important thing is sincerity. As the saying goes, "burn three sticks of civilized incense and pay tribute with a sincere heart." It is not necessary to burn three sticks of incense for every Buddha or Bodhisattva. Generally, it is enough to burn three sticks of incense in front of the Main Hall, and the effect is the same when praying with palms together in other halls. Of course, you can also make your own decision according to the regulations of the temple and the distribution of incense burners in the temple, but it is appropriate to have no more than three sticks of incense in each incense burner. In fact, it doesn’t have to be incense. There are many ways to make offerings to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, usually flowers (showing causes) and fruits (showing results). If conditions are not met, just a cup of water (showing purity and equality) will do. However, you must not use meat or wine to make offerings to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Usually, any one of the six offerings of "incense, flowers, lamps, oil, fruits, and music" can be used. As for the offerings, generally some fruits and flowers are enough. The offerings are up to your personal wishes, as long as they are not wine, meat, onions, or garlic. If you have any questions, you can go to the guest hall of the temple to find Master Zhike, and he will answer your questions. After worshiping the Buddha, one should bow to the abbot to show respect for the Sangha and to pay obeisance to all the Sangha of the ten directions. When you bow to the Master, you only need to bow once. If you meet other Masters again, you can ask for them and salute them. Put your palms together to your chest and join your hands together as a salute. This salute is equivalent to saying hello.

For an interrogation ceremony, the more rigorous one is to first clasp your palms together and bend your body slightly. When your clasped hands are facing the ground, immediately fold the nameless and little fingers of your right hand on top of the unknown and little fingers of your left hand. The tips of the index fingers meet in a semicircle, not in a pointed shape. The tips of the thumbs of both hands also meet. Stand straight and raise this gesture upward to between the eyebrows. This mudra is called Vairocana mudra.
