The school is very good and the teachers are very strict and responsible.

The school is located at the northern end of Sichuan North Road Commercial Street, close to Duolun Road Cultural Celebrities Street. It is the only public junior high school on Sichuan North Road.

The school teaching building was completed in 1916 and has been well preserved for nearly a century. The building was designed by Norwegian architectural designer E·J·Mura. It has a reinforced concrete structure and is a typical early modern architectural style. In 2004, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the Hongkou District People's Government.

For a long time, the school’s high school entrance examination excellence rate has been at the forefront of public junior high schools in the district, and a large number of students enter key high schools every year. In 2003, the top scorer in Hongkou District’s high school entrance examination was born at the school.
