Mount Tai runs through the central part of Shandong Province, within the territory of Tai 'an, between Tai 'an, Jinan and Laiwu. It was called "Daishan" and "Daizong" in ancient times, but it was renamed "Taishan" in the Spring and Autumn Period.
Mount Tai is adjacent to Qufu, Confucius' hometown, and backed by Jinan, the spring city. Mount Tai rises in the eastern part of North China Plain, above Qilu Plain, with the sea in the east, the Yellow River in the west and the water of Wenzhou, Suzhou and Huaihe River in the south.

Mount Tai was regarded by the ancients as a paradise "directly to the throne" and became a sacred mountain worshipped by the people and emperors. There is a saying that "Mount Tai is safe and the world is safe". From Qin Shihuang to Qing Dynasty, 13 emperors went to Mount Tai to worship or sacrifice, and 24 emperors sent officials to sacrifice 72 times.
There are more than 20 ancient buildings and more than 2,200 stone tablets on the majestic Mount Tai. Both Taoism and Buddhism regard Mount Tai as a "fairy mountain Buddha country", deify Mount Tai and build a large number of temples on Mount Tai.
Second: topography
Mount Tai is the highest mountain range in the hills of Shandong. This stratum is a typical basement and caprock structural area of North China Platform. The uplift in the south is large, and the cover is weathered off, exposing a large basement-Taishan complex, that is, the Archaean Taishan Group stratum. Its absolute age is about 2.5 billion years, and it is one of the oldest strata in China.
