Yongxing Island, also known as "Lindao", is named after the dense forest on the island. 1946, yongxing, a warship of the national government, took over the Xisha islands and named the island after the ship to commemorate it. The area is 3. 16 square kilometers, with an average elevation of 5 meters.

Yongxing Island belongs to Xuande Islands in the east of Xisha Islands in the South China Sea of China. It is a coral island formed by white coral shell sand accumulated on the coral reef platform. It is oval and the largest island in the Xisha Islands. Before Nansha Island Reef was dredged, it was the largest island in the South China Sea.

Yongxing Island is the economic, military and political center of Xisha Islands, Nansha Islands and zhongsha islands.
