1. Study in NAU 1) Professional study In NAU, the institution responsible for scholars' study and life is the Center for International Education (CIE) of the school. CIE will arrange a tutor for each scholar in a course that is consistent with or related to the scholar's major. I was arranged by Dr. Angela Lynn Hansen, a tutor in literature, and the course name was Methods ofTeaching Literature. In addition, I contacted my tutor and recommended another course, Teaching ESL Listening and Speaking. The teacher of this course was Dr. Soo JungYoun, a Korean, with a doctoral student, also from the Eastern countries, but it was very powerful. Basically, all classes are multimedia teaching. NAU classrooms are not large. NAU students adopt the course selection system, and they can graduate when their credits reach. The number of students selected for English courses is small. There are 5 students in literature class and 8 students in listening and speaking class. Each student has his own account to log in to NAU's website, and each student in the website has a Blackboard Learn. All the courses selected in each semester will appear in my Blackboard Learn, where teachers can interact with students, and materials that need to be previewed before class or homework after class can be submitted through this system, and what teachers say can basically be reflected in Blackboard Learn.
(BlackboardLearn) students are more free in class, they can eat and bring pets, but they are very self-disciplined, so there will be no cases where students play games and watch videos with their mobile phones. They only use their mobile phones to look up information or bring laptops to the classroom. The teacher said that students take notes directly on the computers. The number of students is small, so there are more interactions. Language courses and interactions are the same as ours. Teachers raise topics, students discuss them in groups and then summarize them. There are mid-term exams and final exams, which are generally divided into homework, quizzes (3-4 times) and final exams. You can get credit if you pass the exam. 2) English Language Learning CIE offers English classes for scholars every week. There are two American students, Lana and Sara, as teachers. Each class has different topics, such as speaking a little basic knowledge of English language, American culture, or understanding of China culture, etc. In class, activities are often held to learn English, and everyone will participate and discuss. After each class, you will be asked to keep a diary, and the teacher will correct it for everyone to improve your English writing.
In addition, another place to study English outside the classroom is the English Corner. There are many churches in Flagstaff, which often hold various activities. Not far from NAU, there is a church that holds English Corners and various activities for students and exchange scholars from non-English-speaking countries in NAU. I will go there every Friday night in various forms. Teachers may be church people or volunteers from NAU, and I have also participated in them during my stay here. Speaking of Potluck, I feel that Europeans and Americans especially like this kind of dinner, and they also like the food cooked by China people. 3) CIE, the American cultural and educational course, will also hold lectures. The person in charge is Gretchen McAllister Ph.D, and all scholars will be arranged to attend lectures. So far, I have participated in Introduction to American Higher Education. Lisa, who is in charge of library affairs in the school, is invited to give a lecture on library information retrieval (Cline Library: using resource campus; The Museum of Northern Arizona also tells you how to use the computer and network of the library and how to borrow books. The name of the library is ClineLibrary. There are many books in it, which are neatly classified. Students can easily find the books they want to read according to the classification marks. Life of faculty members: guest panel; How social identity privileges power and privilege (how social status makes rights and privileges * * *); Session evaluation-suicide prevention training.
(Library) 2. There are several supermarkets near NAU's life, such as Safeway, Ross, Bashas' and Dollar tree. Usually, when I go to these supermarkets to buy food, I will calculate the exchange rate and lament the high price in the United States. In fact, compared with the wage level in the United States, their prices are not high, but the wage level in China is very high. In shopping malls such as Kohl's, Flagstaff Mall and Marsaslls, many clothing accessories are made in China or other countries, and rarely in the United States. In NAU, even in the whole Flagstaff urban area, vehicles obey traffic laws and regulations, and are in good order, with few traffic jams. Traffic signs are conspicuously set up on the roadside, and even at intersections, vehicles will drive in sequence, especially on campus, at intersections with STOP signs, regardless of whether there are pedestrians or other vehicles, vehicles will stop for at least three seconds before leaving; If pedestrians want to cross the road, cars usually stop and wait to let pedestrians pass first. In addition, CIE organized an activity Tripto Sedona in March to go hiking in sedona. We went to Sedona under the leadership of Ms. Gretchen and enjoyed different scenery. Sedona is located in the desert plateau of Arizona and is famous for its beautiful red sandstone layer. The town sounds like a familiar and unfamiliar name. It is said that it is familiar because many enterprises regard this ethereal and mysterious word as a trademark or name, such as "Dongfeng Kia Sedona"; The famous hotel "sedona" in Yangon, etc. It is strange because it is less famous as a tourist scenic spot.
(Chinese Cultural Showcase) At the end of the semester, CIE held a graduation ceremony for the spring semester. The participants were international students who were about to graduate and teachers who came to NAU for exchange and further study. RitaCheng, president of northern arizona university, delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony, and Daniel Palm, director of CIE, presented diplomas to each exchange scholar. I deeply feel that northern arizona university is a school that pays special attention to international students. There are international students from 83 countries in the school, and international students are very active on campus, which provides us with opportunities to learn about exchange scholars from various countries and share their experiences in their own countries and the United States.
III. Summary Thanks. I deeply realize that this experience of studying abroad has benefited me a lot. I want to thank the college for giving me this opportunity to study and live in the United States, which has broadened my horizons and gained a preliminary understanding of the development of higher education in American universities. Education is the foundation of the country. We should actively learn from the advanced experience of higher education in developed countries, and at the same time, based on the national conditions, do our duty as a teacher, constantly improve our teaching and scientific research level, and make our own contribution to the development of higher education in China.
