What does domain name mean?
A domain name is the name of a computer or computer group on the Internet consisting of a string of names separated by dots. DNS resolves the domain name into an IP address, and then uses IP for access. For example: "fuyeor.com" is a domain name, where com is the top-level domain name, or also called the root domain name and domain name suffix.
It is easier for us to remember domain names (such as fuyeor.com), but machines only recognize IP addresses. As long as the IP address corresponds to the relevant domain name, this is called domain name resolution. Domain name resolution needs to be completed by a dedicated domain name resolution server, and the entire process is automatic. Domain Name Resolution Protocol (DNS) is used to map easy-to-remember host domain names and email addresses to IP addresses that are easy for computers to recognize.
Example: www. fuyeor. com is a domain name corresponding to the IP address 208.80.152.2. DNS is like an automatic phone book, we can directly dial the name of the fuyeor website instead of the phone number (IP address). After we directly call the name of the website, DNS will convert the name that is easy for humans to use (such as www.fuyeor.com) into an IP address that is easy for machine identification (such as 208.80.152.2). Multi-level domain names
The domain names of websites are often in the format of "second-level domain name. fuyeor. root domain name", or directly in the format of "fuyeor. root domain name" without a second-level domain. The level of a domain name depends on how many suffixes are separated by "." after the domain name. For example: "www.fuyeor.com" has two suffixes separated by ".", which is a second-level domain name.
The second-level domain name is the domain name stored under the main domain name, which is the domain name one level to the left of the naked domain name. Generally speaking, the second-level domain name is in a format similar to three w (www).
Among them, in "www.fuyeor.com", fuyeor is the subject of the domain name; the root domain name is the suffixes of com, net, and cn, and the second-level domain is "www".
The functions of domain name:
Function 1. Building a website.
The most common use of domain names is to build websites. Whether it is a blog or a corporate website, domain names are one of the necessary conditions for building these terminals. Therefore, friends who want to build a website will register a domain name they need. An excellent domain name can allow customers to quickly remember and find your website, making promotion more effective and greatly enhancing the brand value of the website.
Function 2: Brand protection.
For some well-known brands such as Baidu, JD, etc., there will be a phenomenon of batch registration or purchase of similar related domain names. Brands such as JD.com, Tencent, and Alibaba have dedicated personnel to acquire domain names in batches that are related to and highly similar to their products or brands. Because companies that value their own brands will generally register and protect more important domain name suffixes to prevent anyone from using these easily confused domain names to attract traffic or even damage brand reputation.
