(1) Thermal transfer printing technology has been applied to fabric production for a long time. With the rapid development of high technology, thermal transfer printing technology has been widely used.

There are two types of inks: hot press transfer type and thermal sublimation transfer type. From the transferred objects, there are fabrics, plastics (plates, sheets, films), ceramics and metal-coated plates, etc. Printing methods can be classified into screen printing, planographic printing, gravure printing, embossed printing, inkjet printing and ribbon printing. From the substrate, there are thermal transfer paper and thermal transfer plastic film. The following focuses on hot press transfer and thermal sublimation extension technology.

first, hot-pressing extension technology

hot-pressing extension technology firstly prints pictures and texts on thermal transfer paper or plastic film by screen printing, gravure printing and other printing methods, and then transfers the pictures and texts to fabrics, leather and other articles by heating and pressing.

The thermal transfer process can be referred to as hot stamping, which can be divided into the following categories:

1. High temperature hot stamping: mainly used for cotton and blended knitted garments. Such as t-shirts, pajamas, etc. The pattern has a photo effect, and it is soft and elastic after ironing.

2. Low-temperature hot stamping: mainly used for nylon cloth and PU artificial leather, such as elastic sportswear, swimsuits, down jackets, sports shoes, leather gloves, etc. After hot stamping, the pattern effect is the same as that of high-temperature hot stamping. Used in elastic clothing, the elastic effect is excellent.

3. flocking hot stamping: it has a wide range of applications, and can usually be used for women's stockings, men's cotton foam, clothing trademarks, knitted children's clothes, etc. The pattern has a three-dimensional effect, and can be multi-colored, so it is soft, elastic and has strong adhesion after ironing.

4. infiltration foaming hot stamping: mainly used for cotton, chemical fiber sweaters, sweaters, jeans, etc. The main features are that it permeates into the cloth, has good air permeability, has a strong three-dimensional effect on the foamed part, has a good raised texture, and has soft hand feeling and strong adhesion after ironing.

The hot stamping method and matters needing attention are as follows:

(1) Place the transfer paper patterned fabric in the required position.

(2) Use an iron or a transfer machine to heat under pressure for a few seconds.

(3) Tear off the backing paper (three methods).

cold stripping: after completely cooling, slowly tear off the backing paper.

hot stripping: tear off the backing paper immediately while it is hot.

wentuo: wait a few seconds, and tear off the backing paper when it is warm.

(4) When ironing stockings, silicone paper should be added under the printing surface to prevent hot melt adhesive from infiltrating. General hot stamping process indicators are shown in Table 1 for reference only.

second, thermal sublimation extension technology

traditional thermal sublimation transfer refers to printing thermal sublimation transfer printing ink on paper (or plastic film) by screen printing, and overlapping the paper (or film) printed with pictures and texts with the fabric, heating, pressurizing or depressurizing, so that the dye on the paper (or film) sublimes and transfers to the fabric in gas phase. Besides fabric, it can also be transferred to ceramics, metals and other products. The main feature of thermal sublimation extension technology is that the transferred image is bright in color and rich in layers, and the effect can be comparable to that of printing. Different from printing, the dye in transfer printing ink is heated and sublimated, permeates the surface of the object, and forms a brightly colored image after sublimation. Therefore, thermal transfer products are durable, and images will not fall off, crack and fade.

with the rapid development of high-tech, the technology and level of thermal transfer printing have been further expanded and improved. In thermal transfer printing technology, computers are widely used for image processing and design, and then images are printed on paper (or film) by high-speed and high-quality inkjet printers, which saves the plate-making process. Thermal sublimation ink can also be coated on plastic film and cut into ribbons for smart card printing technology.
