Commenting on A Dream of Red Mansions, Zhi Yanzhai said that four things in the play are the key to the book. Yan Hao is the defeat of the Fu family, the death of Fu, the monk of Fu Baoyu, and the death of Fu Daiyu. Yuan Chun's four plays foreshadowed the fate of the whole Jia family, as well as the fate of major figures such as Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu and Jia Yuanchun.

Let's start with "feast". Zhi Yanzhai commented: "In A Handful of Snow, the downfall of the Jia family is hidden." The Grand Banquet is the representative work of Li Yu, a dramatist in the early Qing Dynasty. In the early Qing dynasty, there were four so-called dramas, which were called "one person for ever". A pile of snow, people and animals were combined into one and reunited forever, ranking first. The first place is a handful of snow. The plot of this play is that Mo Huaigu's family has a jade cup called a pinch of snow. Yan Song's son Yan Shifan asked Mo Huaigu for it. Mo Huaigu found a replica and gave it to him instead. However, Tang Qin, Mo Huaigu's guest, told Yan Shifan that the jade cup was fake. Yan Shifan destroyed Mo Huaigu's family. The passbook drama "Yan Hao" is about Mo Huaigu's visit to Yan Shifan in Beijing. Because he is a family friend, he recommended his favorite pupil Tang Qin to Yan Shifan. They watched the play together while drinking. The play they watched was a play in a play called Zhongshan Wolf, implying that Tang Qin was a Zhongshan Wolf.

Supposedly, Jia Yuanchun should not order such a play, but she did. This is because something similar to a pile of snow will happen in Jia Fu in the future, that is, Jia She has a crush on Shi Chi. The stone idiot didn't sell 12 thousand silver, but Jia Lian didn't want to come, so he was scolded by Jia She. Later, Jia Yucun used his power to say that Shi Idiot owed money to the government, copied his fan and gave it to Jia. Jia She lost a family of stone nerds for a few fans, which is one of the reasons why Jia Fu was copied. Therefore, "Yan Hao" is the failure of the Jia family.

In the second play "Begging for the Spirit", Zhi Yanzhai said that it was "the death of Yuan Fei in Fushou Palace". On July 7th, Yang Guifei knelt down in the Hall of Eternal Life for good luck, and Tang swore to heaven that she would be married to Yang Guifei and never part. Soon, the Anshi Rebellion happened and Emperor Xuanzong fled. When he arrived at Maweipo, the Sixth Army refused to send him, demanding that Yang be executed first, and then Yang Guifei be executed. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty had to order Yang Guifei to be hanged. The fifth time, Jia Baoyu watched Yuan Fei's Atlas and listened to Yuan Fei's music. At leisure, it can be said that the soul fluttered there, or that a living person was hanged by white silk, so Yuan Fei probably hanged himself. Qiao Qi predicted Yuan Fei's death by Yang Guifei's death, and Yuan Fei's death became the most important reason for Jia's decline.

The third play is Yuan Xian, and Zhi Yanzhai's comment is: "In Handan Ji, Fu Zhen Bao Yu gave jade." Handan Ji is a famous work of Tang Xianzu in Ming Dynasty. He wrote it according to the legend of Tang Dynasty and the story of pillow. The Legend of the Tang Dynasty Pillow Story describes how rich Lu Sheng was in his dream, and he was exiled to Yunnan because of the intrigue of officialdom. When he woke up in Lusheng, he found himself so rich, but it was just an absurd dream. He was extradited to heaven by Lv Dongbin and took over the flower broom in the hands of He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals. According to Zhi Yanzhai, this drama laid the groundwork for Zhen Baoyu to send jade in the future. Because Cao Xueqin disappeared dozens of times later, we don't know why Zhen Baoyu sent jade, and what conspiracy will there be? It probably indicates that Jia Baoyu will become a monk like he who sees through the world of mortals.
