Zhang Bishi saw that the young officer did not look like a rogue, and he suspected that he had some unspeakable difficulties in his heart, so he asked the waiter not to charge him any more money for drinks. Later, the officer asked the store clerk why he was not charged for the wine. The store clerk told him what Zhang Bishi said, and he was deeply moved. A few years later, this officer was promoted to the local governor of the Netherlands, and he and Zhang Bishi became sworn friends. The next year, he invested more than three million taels of silver to build a brewing company. In 1894, Changyu Grape Winery Company was officially opened. It was the largest winery company in the Far East at that time. At that time, China had not yet mastered the technology of making wine. Zhang Bishi successively hired five technicians from Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy and other countries, but they always kept the secret of winemaking. Later, they invited an Italian technician named Bardistucci to reveal the secret of winemaking. After years of hard work, we have finally produced high-quality brandy and wine that are comparable to foreign famous brands. In 1912, Sun Yat-sen came to visit the company. After tasting the wine, he personally wrote the four characters "Pin Chong Liquan" as a gift. In 1915, Zhang Bishi took the brandy brewed by the company to participate in the Panama-Pacific International Wine Competition held in San Francisco, USA, and won the gold medal and the highest quality certificate, becoming "a symbol of China's scientific and cultural progress." The company printed the medal in miniature on its trademark and called it "Gold Medal Brandy."
