Liu has been an executive member of the Hong Kong Designers Association since 1989, served as the vice chairman in 1992-93 and 1996-97, and was elected as the chairman of the association in 1994 and 1995. He is also the founder of the Design and Hong Kong Committee. Liu is very concerned about the development of local and international design. In addition to giving extensive lectures in Hong Kong, he often gives lectures in various institutions at home and abroad, such as the first Belgian World Trademark Biennale. In addition, Liu is also a part-time lecturer at the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, and an academic consultant at the Changjiang College of Art and Design of Shantou University. He has designed for voluntary organizations such as Friends of the Earth, WWF and Hunger 30. Wu Fangwei, vice chairman of the board of directors of Friends of the Earth, is known as a true friend of nature. Liu currently holds leadership positions in a number of non-profit-making design organizations, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Design Center, Secretary-General of Hong Kong Design Association and Consultant of International Design Management Institute.
