McLaren Automotive will officially launch the new Artura high-performance hybrid (HPH) supercar in 2021, injecting its professional experience in hybrid powertrain engineering research and development into the supercar. The development of the new car benefits from McLaren’s expertise, experience and engineering achievements in racing and road sports cars accumulated over the past half century.
The new Artura has undergone comprehensive renovation, marking the official entry of McLaren, the leading British sports car manufacturer, into a new era. The new car is built based on McLaren's professional electrification research and development experience and is the brand's first mass-produced high-performance hybrid supercar. McLaren officially launched the P1TM hybrid supercar in 2012, demonstrating the brand's strong electrification capabilities for the first time. This year, the McLaren Speedtail Hyper-GT sports car was officially put into production, becoming the brand's fastest model to date, with a top speed of up to 403 kilometers per hour (about 250 miles per hour).
McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt said: “From every detail of the platform architecture and high-performance hybrid powertrain, to the body, interior and cutting-edge driving interface, the new McLaren Automotive Artura has achieved comprehensive innovation from the inside out. At the same time, the new car also draws on McLaren's decades of experience in leading ultra-lightweight racing and road sports car technology, and introduces our professional electrification research and development experience into the supercar field. . ”
The new Artura marks the debut of McLaren’s new compact twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine. The engine is combined with an electric motor to form a new lightweight, high-performance hybrid powertrain that retains the performance advantages of McLaren's high-power V8 engine while improving torque response at low engine speeds to achieve powerful acceleration performance. The new Artura also supports pure electric driving mode to meet the zero-emission daily urban travel experience.
The new Artura is McLaren's first model based on a new electrified platform architecture and is designed and produced by the McLaren Composites Technology Center (MCTC) in the UK. The new car further demonstrates McLaren's consistent ultra-lightweight engineering design principles derived from motorsport. For example, weight-saving technologies in the chassis, body and powertrain largely offset the extra mass added by a high-performance hybrid system. In addition, as the core of the new Artura, the McLaren Lightweight Carbon Fiber Architecture (MCLA) not only gives the new car an outstanding weight advantage, but also lays the foundation for the powerful dynamic performance inherent in every McLaren sports car.
More details about the new McLaren Artura will be announced in the coming months.
