Introduction to Li Yongjin’s “Match World” Collection

The owner of the museum has done extensive research on the history and development of matches. He has published more than 100 research articles in more than 50 newspapers and magazines across the country, including the overseas edition of "People's Daily", "Liberation Daily", and "Southern Weekend". articles.

Nearby primary and secondary schools use his family collection as a second classroom for traditional patriotism education and popular science knowledge. He once made a diorama of Shanghai Harbor out of 100,000 matchsticks. The Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Shanghai Port Authority awarded him the honorary title of "Port Artist". After a lapse of 50 years, Guangdong Zhaoqing Human Health Xuan returned from studying in Japan and determined to "save the country through 32 industries". In 1879, he founded China's first match factory in Wenchang, Foshan (later moved to Gongwa), named "Qiaoming Match". factory". Due to the tight sales time, we obtained the consent of Osaka Public Welfare Co., Ltd. in Japan to use the company's "Dragon Dance" spark pattern as a trademark in the name of match manufacturing and sales. In order to eliminate the influence of foreign products as soon as possible, Qiaoming Match Factory designed its own "Taihe Wulong Brand" match trademark while producing the first batch of matches. After these two kinds of matches came out in China. It is also said to be the first, more than 100 years ago, and both have high collection value. However, it is so old, where can I find it? The enthusiastic collector told Li Yongjin: "There is a collector in Shanghai who is over 60 years old and likes to collect stamps, sparklers, and cigarette brands. He has the earliest match trademark in China."< /p>

Li Yongjin did not know this man and could not take the liberty to visit, so he sincerely sent a letter to purchase. The old man was happy and willing to give up his love, but the price was equivalent to Li Yongjin's salary for nearly three months, so he hesitated for a while. His wife Hu Houqiang's income was not high, but she knew her husband's mood at this time, so she said: "Collecting matches has a noble interest, and treasures are hard to find. Don't miss this opportunity." Li Yongjin finally got his wish and bought two extremely precious frames of China's earliest antiques. Spark, now a complete set of match collections reflecting the development history of China's match industry are in place, becoming an artistic treasure handed down from generation to generation. Teachers and students from many schools visited the "Li Yongjin Match Museum" and praised: "Mr. Li's match collection is the epitome of the beginning of modern Chinese industry. Along its trajectory, we have seen the struggle of national industry, the development of science and technology, and the development of science and technology." Mr. Li has done a great thing by appreciating the style of culture, art and humanistic landscape, and the interest of folk customs!" Li Yongjin has a "contact map" in his hand and has established communication links with the designers of more than 100 match factories across the country. As soon as new products are available, these friends send him information. Colleagues from my unit who went abroad for inspection also collected high-quality matches for him overseas. Some match manufacturers who were unfamiliar to him also presented him with specially made high-end matches. In May 1990, the "Shanghai's First Private Collection Exhibition" opened at the Shanghai Art Museum. The Shanghai Match Factory was moved by Li Yongjin's collecting deeds regardless of fame or fortune, and immediately organized workers to work overtime, specially made two "super matches", and sent a dedicated person to deliver them to the exhibition. These two matches, named "Big Mac", are well made, with one black tip and one red tip, and a square and one round stem, just like a male and a female, paired together. The rectangular black-headed matches are 430 mm long, 20 mm wide and 25 mm in diameter. Each has its own characteristics. Since only two are made, they are truly unique. Others, such as some exquisitely decorated and colorful matches in triangles, hexagons, octagons, cylinders, rectangles, book shapes and other colors, are also eye-opening.

Li Yongjin has become keenly interested in ancient fire-making tools in recent years. Primitive society used wood to make fire. Only historical records and no actual objects have been found. However, fire knives (fire sickles) and flints have been passed down for thousands of years and disappeared from the city until the end of the Anti-Japanese War. Li Yongjin thought that making fire from the fire knife to the invention of matches is a history of social civilization and progress, and it should have a place in the Match Museum. After searching for several years without success, he met an enthusiastic person who traveled to the outer suburbs of Pudong several times to find out where the old houses were to be demolished. Finally, he found a cowhide bag fire knife. He sold half of it and half gave it to Li Yongjin, which made him extremely excited.

In 1995, when he heard that his friend Wang Linguo was aiding Tibet, Li Yongjin made a special trip to see him off. Xiao Wang said: "I will bring you a local gift after returning from aiding Tibet." Li Yongjin smiled and said: "No need to say goodbye, I only need a fire knife and flint." Wang Linguo always remembered this sentence and took advantage of the holiday after entering Tibet. I visited the herdsmen’s settlement many times and saw a Tibetan fire knife from an old herdsman. I explained my purpose and paid for it. This kind of fire knife is exquisitely decorated. The cowhide bag is inlaid with a string of small silver beads, a string of small copper beads, and a large gold-plated bead in the middle. It is antique and full of ethnic style. Li Yongjin received this fire knife as if he had found a treasure.

Currently, he has collected more than ten fire knives from various places, some of which are inlaid with pearl agate, some with patterns of gold-plated floating dragons and auspicious clouds, and some of which are engraved with auspicious words, meaning good luck. Many people think that fire knives and flints are worthless, but in the Li Yongjin Match Museum, they show their inestimable unique historical and artistic value.

Overseas, modern people have been pursuing returning to nature and advocating nature in recent years, so classical matches have been revived and appear in luxurious banquets, get-togethers with family and friends, and in the hands of couples. So far, Li Yongjin has collected many kinds of these classical matches. Unfortunately he also lacked a match that would burn for a long time. Shanghai media reported that Li Yongjin was indifferent to fame and fortune and collected matches. A technician from the Donghai Branch of the State Oceanic Administration was deeply moved after reading it, and wrote to Li Yongjin specifically: "I brought back a kind of exquisite and unique fireplace matches from the United States, a pack of ***90 matches, all of which are given as gifts."

A friend’s elderly man celebrated his 90th birthday, and Li Yongjin congratulated him on his birthday. There was a large cake on the table with 90 colorful candles. Use this kind of fireplace match to light one candle after another until all were lit, and the match was still burning, which won the applause of the whole house. Ordinary match stems are 3 centimeters long and can only burn for a few seconds. However, the fireplace matches produced in the United States, Taiwan and other countries and regions collected by Li Yongjin have stems about 10 times longer than ordinary matches and can be lit continuously for 3 minutes. Li Yongjin also collects a magical match that is not afraid of wind or tide. After being soaked in water for a long time, he took it out and faced a strong wind of level 10, but it lit up as soon as he stroked it. It was amazing. Another type of high-temperature match is even more amazing. It can generate a high temperature of 2,000 degrees Celsius at the moment of combustion, which provides great convenience for welding and repair of railway tracks in remote areas.
