Little-known History: How Tian Fei Moutai was born?
The Origin of Maotai in Tian Fei

Maotai Distillery used the same trademark for early export and domestic sales, and printed the "Golden Wheel Brand" trademark composed of golden wheat ear gear and red five-star, which is the predecessor of today's "five-star" trademark.

However, the international situation was turbulent in the 1950s, and influenced by the Cold War mentality, European and American countries were extremely sensitive to the ideology and elements of productism. The five-star and gear shape in the trademark composition of "Golden Wheel Brand" has obvious socialist color. Because of this, the sales of "Golden Wheel" Moutai in the international market have been greatly affected.

In order to solve this dilemma, Maotai Distillery, after many discussions and studies, decided to take the pattern of "flying to offer wine" in Dunhuang murals as the prototype, and designed a set of trademarks specially used for exporting Maotai liquor, which not only had rich elements of China traditional culture, but also played down the political significance.

1958, "Tian Fei Brand" completed its overseas registration. The shipper, Hong Kong Wufenghang, registered the trademark in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia under the name of "Feixian Brand". This trademark (called "Tian Fei Brand" by China) belongs to China Grain and Oil Import and Export Corporation, Guangdong Grain Import and Export Corporation and Guangxi Grain and Oil Import and Export Corporation, and later to Guizhou Grain and Oil Import and Export Corporation. Enterprises in Guizhou Province, such as Dongjiu and Xishui, also used it as an export trademark for some time.

The Significance of Maotai in Tian Fei

The two fairies of Tian Fei brand were taken from Ganlv, the god of nature in Indian mythology, and Kinnara, the god of nature. Their function is to spread flowers and fragrance, play music and dance. Flying pattern is one of the symbolic images of Dunhuang murals and a treasure in the history of world art.

As early as19th century, Dunhuang civilization caused waves of upsurge in western countries. Germany, Russia, Britain, France, Sweden, Finland and other countries sent inspection teams to Dunhuang for scientific investigation. Because the image of "Fei" in Dunhuang murals has a great influence abroad, this symbol has been accepted by everyone, and anti-China forces are speechless.

The birth of "Tian Fei Brand" trademark not only shows the long artistic history of China, but also has far-reaching influence in the world. Moreover, once the "Tian Fei Brand" trademark was launched, it quickly helped Moutai to open the international market and solved the dilemma of anti-China forces boycotting China's export products at that time.
