Introduction
The original work is "Tenjoin Atsuhime" by Nobiko Miyao. The protagonist is Tenjoin (Atsuhime), the wife of Tokugawa Iedada, the 13th shogun of the Edo shogunate. This is the seventh Dahe drama with a female protagonist in history, two years after "Crossroads of Fame" in 2006.
This is the second work about the Bakumatsu era since "Shinsengumi" was broadcast in 2004. It is also the second original work by Miyao Tomiko after "Yoshitsune" in 2005.
The starring Miyazaki Aoi is the first to star in a Taiga drama, and is also the youngest Taiga drama actor in the history of the drama. Most actors make their debut in evening Japanese dramas, but Aoi Miyazaki made her debut in a morning drama. It is the first time in the history of NHK that she stars in a Taiga drama in this capacity.
In order to prevent unauthorized theft, NHK Corporation has registered various trademarks for "Atsuhime" and "Taikawa Drama: Atsuhime", and will charge users a usage fee. Although there are criticisms that the historical term "Atsuhime" should not be monopolized, NHK seems to have no intention of withdrawing the registered trademark, citing the precedent of this in the past Taiga drama.
