Because of his persistence, the trademark could not be stabilized, so many businesses took advantage of the opportunity and produced "Lai Mao Liquor" one after another.
Kweichow Moutai Group began to apply for three trademarks: "Huamao", "Wangmao" and "Laimao" in 1988, and "Huamao" and "Wangmao" have all been approved. There have been objections to the "Laimao" trademark and the failure to resolve the trademark ownership is the root cause of the chaos in Laimao.
It was not until 1996 that the Lai Mao trademark was approved by the State Trademark Administration. In 2003, Lai's descendants filed an objection. In 2005, the State Trademark Administration revoked the trademark registration of Moutai Group. Moutai Group once again applied for Laimao trademark registration in 2009, and the registration was approved after review in 2012. In 2014, the Laimao trademark finally belonged to Moutai Liquor.
The biggest mistake of Moutai Group is that it has never used the Lai Mao trademark for production. This is the core basis for the Lai family’s descendants to apply for opposition, and it is also the fundamental reason why the Lai family dares to file a lawsuit. However, after all, Moutai Group passed the registration review twice and carried out protective registration of "Mao", which can be regarded as occupying the commanding heights in the dispute over trademark ownership.
As the issue of Laimao trademark ownership has been settled, Laimao liquor has been placed in an important position by Moutai Group again. Moutai Co., Ltd. produces Qilai Maotai liquor, and its brand is positioned as "National Maotai Fragrance". Although Lai Mao is no longer what it used to be, both the packaging design and the body of the wine still have a typical Mao style.
Laimao also carries important historical significance. Currently, there are mainly several series: Chuanxi, Chongsha, Duanqu and Chuanxi, which are more suitable for the experiment and nurturing consumption of Maotai-flavor liquor. The current beverage market is just like Laimao's in the past, a mixed bag of good and bad, but I don't know if the outcome can be handled as well as Laimao's.
