According to the "Preliminary Research Report on the Protection of Cretaceous Strata, Dinosaur Egg Fossils and Geological Relics in the Qinglong Mountain Area of ??Yun County, Hubei Province" submitted by the relevant research group of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in February 1996 and the Chinese Paleontology Professor Li Fenglin, secretary-general of the society, and other experts conducted research and found that the Qinglongshan dinosaur egg fossils have the following basic characteristics:
· Large quantity. There are 2,000 dinosaur egg fossils or egg pits visible on the surface. Within an area of ??about 60,000 square meters in the Qinglong Mountain area, the most concentrated hinterland, there are more dinosaur egg fossils stored underground.
· Shallow burial. Most of the egg-laying strata have been exposed close to the surface. With a little exposure, you can see complete dinosaur egg fossils in the nest, which is beneficial to research and development.
· Many varieties. Among the 8 dinosaur egg families discovered by international reports and the 7 dinosaur egg families discovered by domestic reports, 5 families have been found in this area. Most of the dinosaur egg fossils and genera and species in the families have been seen for the first time in this area.
· Concentrated distribution. Egg fossils are highly dense. On the stratigraphic profile, the egg-laying layers are generally 2-6, and the layers are relatively stable. Only Tumiao Ridge has 5 layers. The spacing between egg nests in the same layer is generally 3-5 meters. The density is less than 3 meters, and the number of eggs in each nest is generally about 10, with up to 25 visible.
· Well preserved. The fossils and the landforms in the area are relatively complete, and the original nesting state is basically preserved. The geological information is quite rich. The dinosaur egg fossil group in Qinglong Mountain in Yun County is another major discovery after the dinosaur egg fossils in Xixia, Henan. Overseas newspapers and magazines marveled that the dinosaur egg fossils in Qinglong Mountain are "the most complete in the world and exceed the scale of Xixia". Geological experts claim: "This rare geological relic is a precious, non-renewable geological and natural heritage that was formed, developed and left over due to various internal and external dynamic geological processes during the earth's long geological history."
The uniqueness of the dinosaur egg fossils from Qinglong Mountain in Yunxian County provides very precious physical evidence for domestic and foreign studies of dinosaur living habits, breeding methods and the ecological environment at that time. It is also important for the study of paleogeography, paleoclimate, The evolution of the earth and the evolution of organisms are of great scientific value for exploring the systematic classification and evolution of dinosaur egg fossils, and for exploring the reasons for the death and extinction of large numbers of dinosaurs on the earth. The following is a list of major events in the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Reserve.
In March 1995, dinosaur egg fossils were discovered in Qinglong Mountain, Liupi Town, Yun County, Hubei Province. There are 8 surface dinosaur eggs concentrated in less than 4 square kilometers around Qinglong Mountain. Among them, dinosaur eggs are most concentrated in Hongzhaizi and Tumiaoling. Here, dinosaur egg fossils are exposed in pieces. Their large number, concentrated distribution, and complete preservation are truly rare in the world. This important discovery has received widespread attention at home and abroad.
In 1997, the Yun County Qinglong Mountain Dinosaur Egg Fossil Group Relics Reserve was listed as a national first-level geological relics reserve by the State Council.
In 1998, the People's Government of Yunxian County spent more than 1 million yuan to build a more than 500-meter-long wall at Tumiao Ridge, where dinosaur egg fossils are most concentrated, integrating science popularization, tourism and protection. , the total area of ??the reserve is 0.6 square kilometers, effectively protecting this precious geological relic.
On May 1, 2008, the Yun County National Geopark was officially opened. Yunxian National Geopark is invested, developed and operated by Hong Kong Huayuan Holdings Company, which plans to build it into a national 4A-level tourist area within five years. The core area of ??the park is located in Liupi Town, Yun County, about 8 kilometers east of the county seat and about 23 kilometers south of Shiyan City. The scenic spot has "one garden and eight districts" under its jurisdiction. The core area mainly includes: Geological Museum, Dinosaur Cultural Plaza, Dinosaur Science Park, Dinosaur Lake Water Amusement Park, Dinosaur Egg Fossil Exhibition Gallery, Dinosaur Amusement Park, Geological Landscape Wall, Bird's Nest Group, Dinosaur Ecological Park, Dinosaur Sign Monuments, and Plates. Tourist reception service center, science popularization exhibition center and other scenic spots. The dinosaur egg fossils in this area have the characteristics of shallow burial, large quantity, complete species, concentrated distribution and good preservation, and have a high reputation at home and abroad. In particular, dragon eggs are born in the same area, which is rare in the world.
Accommodation:
If there is no accommodation in the scenic area, you can go back to Shiyan for accommodation. Shiyan Hotel is recommended.
You can also stay in Yunxian County, and we recommend Yunxian Hotel.
Transportation:
Take the green bus to Shiyan Passenger Terminal to Liupi Town, and then take a taxi directly.
Food:
Spicy soup is a unique and economical snack in Yun County.
The spicy soup uses exquisite ingredients and has a complete range of condiments. Mainly include: vermicelli (local sweet potato flour), gluten, yam, yellow flower, fungus, kelp shreds, diced beef, etc. The condiments include: pepper, cloves, cinnamon, strawberries, fennel, chili powder, etc., mix and crush and set aside.
