Fragrant rice

Jiagou Town, Yongqiao District, is famous at home and abroad for its production of fragrant rice. With its fragrance, sweetness and pure taste, fragrant rice has participated in many national agricultural expositions and won gold medals, and was named green food by the provincial government. Jiagou fragrant rice is known as "one family cooks and ten families cook it, and ten families cook it and the village is filled with aroma". It has always been a good gift for relatives and friends, and has become a well-known local specialty. Origin and development

According to legend, fragrant rice originated from wild rice (wild rice) in Pihuli Village, Suzhou. People ate it to satisfy their hunger in the four years of the Song Dynasty's Taiping and Xingguo years. At the same time, it was discovered by the presiding monk of Zhentou Temple. Transplanted in the paddy field in front of the temple and irrigated by natural spring water, its fragrance is particularly strong. Since then it has become a major local specialty. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, the prefect of Suzhou offered fragrant rice as a tribute to please the Emperor Jiaqing. Long Yan was very happy. From then on, it became a necessity for Suzhou to pay tribute every year, so it was also called "tribute rice". After liberation, under the attention of local party and government leaders and under the guidance of the science and technology department, veteran Comrade Ding Jialiang carefully managed the experiments and hybridized "Huayu No. 1" and "Radiation No. 3" with the original species successively, resulting in a better fragrance and making Xiaer's specialty fragrant rice at home and abroad has been further developed, and more people can taste it. For example, major hotels and restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai and some provincial capitals have the fragrance of "fragrant rice". After the household responsibility system was established, the area of ??Jiagou fragrant rice remained at about 1,000 acres, and the production area was expanded from Zhentou Village to Wuliu Village (Wuliu Village and Zhentou Village have similar water sources and soil conditions). Since last year, through technological development and pollution-free cultivation, the area has been expanded to nearly 10,000 acres, and the varieties have been expanded from the single fragrant glutinous rice in the past to six series including fragrant japonica, fragrant glutinous rice, pearl fragrant, black fragrant, red fragrant, and green fragrant. There are more than ten varieties, the yield per mu is also as high as 400-500 kilograms, the total output is 4-5 million kilograms, and the annual output value can reach more than 16-20 million yuan, achieving both social and economic benefits.

Production environment conditions and characteristics

The environmental production conditions of Jiagou fragrant rice include three aspects: First, the quality of mineral spring water. Jiagou fragrant rice was originally produced in Zhentousi Hequan, Under the Pearl Spring, it is said that when it was first planted, it only had more than ten acres, and the yield per mu was 50-100 kilograms. The developed series of fragrant rice are also irrigated with high-quality Hequan and Pearl Spring water. After testing, it is rich in strontium, magnesium, zinc, molybdenum and other human body substances. Requires trace elements. (Attached is the identification and laboratory report). Second, Zhentou and Wuliu Village both have fertile loess soil, coupled with the long-term application of large amounts of organic farmyard manure, which are the main external factors that create Jiagou fragrant rice. Third, the varieties must be fragrant glutinous rice grown and developed into six series of more than ten varieties. The characteristics of fragrant rice are that the rice grains are slender, the color is like Chinese jade, and there is a white eye spot on the abdomen. During the ripening season of the rice, the fragrance floats in the wind.

Production and Sales

In order to further expand the popularity of Jiagou rice, open and broaden domestic and foreign markets, improve the quality of products, and effectively increase the income of growers, the town committee and the town government have While not relaxing the construction of production bases, we will pay more attention to scale development, product value-added, commodity sales, and agricultural efficiency enhancement. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Increase scientific and technological development efforts and continuously cultivate New varieties. The original fragrant glutinous rice varieties have gradually degenerated, and most of the varieties introduced from other places are hybrid varieties. Although there is yield, the rice quality is not pure and the aroma is not correct. Jiagou Town is based on local reality and follows the path of self-cultivation and variety development, ensuring not only the output, but also the quality, so that the fragrant rice truly lives up to its name. At the same time, we jointly develop new varieties with Nanjing Agricultural University and the Rice and Products Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, and purify and rejuvenate "Laoxiangnuo" to improve the technological content of the varieties.

2. Establish an industrial model of “company + farmer”. Although it is a local specialty product, due to scattered family operations, farmers do not have the energy and financial resources to go out to find sales. In view of this situation, if we want to open up sales and promote the products to domestic and foreign markets, we must take the path of "corporate farmers" , the development company and farmers have signed purchase and sales contracts, which solves the farmers’ worries.

3. The town government invested more than 700,000 yuan in 1993 to establish "Suzhou Jiagou Fragrant Rice Technology Development Co., Ltd." and purchased fragrant rice processing equipment. The fragrant rice has been treated with techniques such as cage grain, screening, polishing, and no-tagging to maintain the quality of the fragrant rice. The purity of the rice, the brightness of the color, the aroma of the taste, and with the company as the leader and relying on the two bases of Wuliu and Zhentou, a one-stop industrial chain of production, processing and sales has been formed, with an annual output value of more than 22 million yuan. .

4. Increase infrastructure investment and vigorously build pollution-free production bases. In view of the poor production infrastructure and backward planting model of fragrant rice, Jiagou Town actively "travels to the province and goes to Beijing". In terms of construction, unified seed supply, unified seedling cultivation, unified seedling throwing, unified fertilization, unified management, unified technical guidance, unified procurement, Unified sales have completely embarked on the sound track of industrialized production. At the same time, 15 kilometers of water canals were built, 72 supporting culverts were built, and 27 sets of newly purchased drainage and irrigation equipment were purchased to fully ensure the water supply and drainage of the 10,000-mu fragrant rice production base.

5. Regulate the market. Jiagou Town focuses on supporting the "Wuliu" brand that has been registered with the State Trademark Office, so that famous brand products can truly occupy the market. At the same time, the industrial and commercial, public security, quality inspection and other departments work together to strengthen market management, crack down on counterfeit and illegal operations of individual traders, and vigorously protect and support the fragrant rice development company so that it can maximize its leading role as a leading enterprise. We firmly believe that after the expansion of Jiagou rice, facing the opportunities and challenges of joining the WTO, the fragrance will spread far and wide with higher quality products, rich fragrance, and competitiveness...
